Getting links from competitors are pretty difficult so is there any other sources that are considered quality links?

Get a bunch of low quality backlinks, and counter them with high quality backlinks. That's a good combination.

spam. Google knows this and the algorithm is smart enough to give no credit for these links. The best links are from within the on-page content itself and the higher pr/link juice of that page.

"This domain has a -30 penalty"
