How fast is too fast?

What do you guys think: you have a 2 months old domain. You already built like 20 solid backlinks from different domains. Rankings have been improving steadily. How should you proceed? Doesn't it look unnatural for Google when you build 100 links within the first few months with just 10 content pages?

So my main concern is how many backlinks you should place without risking a penalty with sites like that? Let's suppose you vary anchor text and use different link sources.

As many as you can. Just make sure they're not spammy links like spam comments etc and let Google pick them naturally (No pinging whatsoever).

bk071 has said it. Just dont try to Ping all your backlinks in 1 day or so

Just try to vary up your banklinks a lot so they look natural and slightly random from around the web. Don't just have all blog comments or article submissions or whatever. If you also vary where you get put your links, the time that Google takes to index them will be different etc.

Try and think like a search engine. What would you give more weight too? Try and create backlinks from sites related to your niche. Google sees this and awards more weight to the link.

you can do no matter how much backlink you can. Google won't get you in penalty unless you spam. If not you will have no problem with build backlink. Build your backlink smart then you unable to get catch .

The question is what is considered as spam nowadays? In my opinion Google seems to be more strict now. I don't have any evidence but I saw sites get penalized after dropping 100 social bookmark links at one day (not mine though). The guy practices it since 2007 and it used to work great.
I know it's a question of quality but let's say you drop links in forums or profiles. What do you think is too fast?
You say I should think like a search engine and that's the best approach I guess. So if I was Google I'd penalize a site that had 5 backlinks after 2 months and now receives 200 within 2 days.

Even 100 backlinks / month is not so many, if you do this month after month, that's not a problem because the process will be steady/stable. But 200 / day is a different story...

Be careful do not flood you website with spammy backlinks especially when your domain is new,

If your backlinks are from authority sites then great, apparently you have an awesome website and other websites agree. Your website shall be promoted in SERPS even though it's brand new...

if you made a bunch of junk backlinks(scrapebox), then they simply would be ignored by google or treated with very little weight (same as with the aged sites).

There is no "new site penalty"... it would make no sense.
If you made a brand new shopping site or something and you put out an ad for it on television, the next day you would have 1000+ sites linking to you through social networks, reviews, complaints or whatever...

so... should your website be penalized for that?

One of the main things to think about is link velocity. Can you sustain the link building effort at that rate for how long. If you can steadily build 100 good links a day then go for it. You will be bouncing up and down for a while while the g tries to sort out your site ranking but the dance is normal, just keep doing what you were doing. If you are building solid links without pinging then the discovery process will be slow and pretty natural looking - just takes a lot longer.

You ping it by sending it to a selected list of ping servers. This is to alert Google and to try and get their crawlers to find your new backlink. That's pretty much the basics of it, by pinging your backlinks you will help them get noticed but you still need to build more rather than just pinging the whole time!

It all depends on the link quality.
If you blast out a TV ad and 1000+ sites link to you next day you surely have a very unique link profile, solid IP pop, all kinds of links (blog posts, social networks, forums, whatever). But who here runs TV ads?
If you don't have an incredible network of powerful sites with good IP pop you just can't pull out hundreds of links daily that are of high quality.

So my question is: how many low - medium quality links look natural to G? To answer your question: yes, I would definitely penalize myself if I discover 1000 links at one day that are highly identical (forum profile links, forum posts, blog comments). Everybody who disagrees should show some prove. I'd really wanna see that!

1. Find a nice keyword
2. Register Keyword rich domains, like 4 of them targeting the same kw
3. blast each domain differently and keep 1 whitehat
