What kind of computer do you work on???

32bit systems only operate up to 4gb and don't take full support of a quad core.. So if plan on building anything extravagant go either vista/xp 64bit..

My build right now is just something to get me by. I am leaning to two quad 6600 pc's with a 8800gt on work pc and gtx 260 SSC for my freetime pc..

If any of you run a massive program list then I would suggest a quad, their getting extremely cheap now-a-days.. They can be had for 180$(q6600) and you will not regret it. Doing a full overhaul of your pc for around 800-1k and having your pc boot in seconds while being able to get right to work as soon as you see the desktop, is priceless

Also to make things more better, the 6600 can clock to 3.4ghz on air with all cores.. If that's not a bang for your buck then I'm not sure what is..


Dual screens are also the way to go, if you know where to look then you can find a nice price for duals at 300-350$ which is 2x 19-22" screens.. I would suggest getting a 20-22" for your main screen then getting a swivel mount 19" screen. Hanns-g has a good one for 180$

Also the main purpose of the screen above is just for internet viewing pleasures.. Getting just 2 big screens in some cases helps you lose focus and also is a pain in the ass moving your head side-to-side.

I use two Dell 700M laptops. I'm not a graphics guy and I don't run a bunch of software. Both have 1.7 GHz Pentium M processors, 2 gig RAM, 80 gig HDs. They weigh 4 lbs apiece and they're ~3 years old. Take that Mac Airwhateverthefuck.

I always hook them up to external monitors and just a few weeks ago I ran across these no-name brand (Hannspree, wtf!) 22" monitors at BestBuy and figured what the hell. They have a 1680x1050 resolution and look pretty good. I don't play games or do graphic design so I don't need top-of-the-line monitors.

I'm about to invest in either a badass desktop and keep my laptops for travel (or working on the back deck, of course) or just get a really, Really, REALLY badass Desktop replacement laptop.

That's a kickass setup. How much was the 42 inch HDTV? Is it a FULL HD tv (1920x1080) or "HD Ready" tv (1366x768 or something like that)?

There is no Windows computer on the planet as stable as the oldest model Mac...period!

Continue using your Mac but install a Windows emulator. There are several to choose from. My favourite is Parallels.

With a Mac, you can use ALL Windows software. With Windows you can use some Mac software but not all.

Stick with your Mac. I have both operating systems and Windows sucks!

Is the emulator free? or do you have to buy it?
Where do i download it off of? a torrent site?
if it is a torrent site i get uneasy because of all the viruses that are out there.
Also wont a emulator like that slow down your computer like CRAZY??

I remember my friend put windows on my macbook laptop and it slowed down the computer alot.

Right now I'm on a E-machines T6524 that I bought 2 years ago but eh.. I wish I could fork over a pretty penny for a brand new gaming machine that I want.

I have really bad eye sight, one reason for the big ass screen, I also didn't have the right glasses on that day, damm kids had broken the right ones the night before.

That screen is full 1920x1080 HD, I paid like $1000 from WalMart for it.

The system itself cost me just under $1000 to build. I have a few other workstations in the office for other staff but nothing like mine.

My network / company storage server is my real pride and joy.

4 x Intel Xeons @ 2.4 Ghz
8GB RAM
8 x 1TB SATA drives raided into one 7.x TB share
Compaq Gigabit Network card with 4 ports on it.

Its a beast, four power supplies
