A lot of people emphasize the importance of social media for SEO and I hear a lot about twittering benefits for it here and there but I can`t really get the gist of it. Could someone please explain how to do it in short? Maybe it is a good idea to buy some "I will tweet your products, services or website to 9,000 followers for $5" on fiverr or to work with twitterfeed.com/? Thanks.

Some of my tweets hve ended up on websites that lead to both traffic and back links

That is correct, a lot of case studies prove that this will benefit your rankings. Just look at honeybirds post.
The only problem is that I couldn't find any solid retweet gigs. Did you find some good tweet suppliers?

Thanks...but what I am trying to figure it out is the best ways to gain links and how to play twitter for it.

Nop, I thought that first I should find out if such gigs add value to my SEO strategy so I didn`t even try one of those.

in short: make a legit twitter account, fill out your profile, make it look nice, do not spam, provide quality, try to be an authority, write keyword rich tweets, mind retweetability (don't use all the 140 characters)

yea, it's quite old, but it's still valid

I've had some great success with Twitter. Twitter links do count as links, so in theory you could use tons of twitter accounts to retweet your link and get some benefit. The problem is the value of the link is proportional to the popularity of the twitter user, so this approach *might* be kind of useless. I haven't tried it though.

If you want a link to go viral on twitter, you have to make sure the link is something people will actually retweet. You just need to tweet to enough people to gauge your viral potential and if it works out you can buy more packages or whatever.

Twitter has actually worked best for me for link baiting. For example, recently one of the top industry guys had been covering something on his site, I did some related content and tweeted it right at him. He didn't retweet, but I got an excerpt / link in his follow up article. This works really well and you don't have to write some salesy awkward email that might not even get read.

purchase tweets from fiverr for this purpose its not worth. create a really good "tweet" bait content and get retweet for legit accounts

This is an interesting gig I found that gives you 700+ links from micro-blogs just like Twitter: http://www.fiverr.com/users/rich77s...rect-traffic-edu-com-org-links?ref=glst-g-ttl

What do you guys think of it? (and no, it's not mine and I have no affiliation with them)

I tried it out a few weeks ago and my site did increase in ranking, but I also ordered a few other backlink gigs at the same time, so it's hard to say if this one itself had any effect.

I honestly think that Twitter is worthless for SEO. I've used it to post a year's worth of links to fresh content and saw zero ranking movement caused by it. It is a great way to get fresh content indexed quickly but that was the only result I saw.

you need authority, influental twitter accounts providing quality content, you can't be surprised if you spam a year's worth of links and you don't get anywhere...

LOL... I didn't post a year's worth of links in one day. I meant that I posted one or two quality tweets per day over a year (roughly). I also have 5,000 followers, had massive retweets along the way, but no ranking movement caused by this. Maybe I need far more than 5,000 followers, although that would be tough to achieve as my content niche is fairly small.

The real question is how many followers does it take to cause a ranking movement via a Tweet. Google isn't stupid so probably 50,000+ followers + 500+ retweets. That would be uber hard to achieve for every Tweet in turn causing some massive ranking movements. Hence I think it's worthless for the average Joe SEO guy.

I wouldn't just use Twitter for ranking. I've got a couple of thousand accounts that I use just for indexing (not for spamming offers directly) and I've got good results in combination with other indexing techniques. I find that stuff that gets posted on Twitter gets indexed super fast (pretty much instantly) and is more resilient to direct spamming than stuff that isn't.

lol, i thought you blasted the hell out of twitter in a day :)
"The real question is how many followers does it take to cause a ranking movement via a Tweet." - That's the good question and we can't say it for sure, something along those lines what you said, it can be another good point if you follow very few people comparing to your followers count (100 followings : 50k followers)
We can agree that social marketing is probably not the easiest way to SEO a site, but it can help (a lot), if you do it rite. And i wouldn't leave out this spicy ingredient from the SEO soup!

A good case study would be Charlie Sheen who is probably the king of reTweets right now and he can't even rank his first and last name keyword domain over the trash heap commonly referred to as Wikipedia (God how I despise that website). Says a lot about the power of Twitter and SEO benefits to me. :D

I think of social media links in terms of "insta-trust"â„¢ and the "viral effect." You can't ignore good fundamentals (ie. tons of backlinks and good anchor text), but social media links are a signal to SEs that your stuff is legitimately instantly popular and that all those quickly acquired links are worthy of recognition rather than just being spam.

Only possible explanation: Charlie Sheen owns wikipedia & imdb and he doesn't want to outrank them :p
