The key is to take action. You see, all this information is out there already. With a tool like Market Samurai and Majestic SEO I can go out and reverse engineer ANY campaign. It take about an hour to uncover the whole link network of anyone on page one of Google and get an idea on their strategy. Nevertheless, a lot of people a still struggling to rank their websites. You just need to get you shit together and do stuff, daily. Whether you feel like it or not.

I can't explain why it works. I didn't program Google's ranking algorithm. I am just modeling successful campaigns that I reverse engineered.

It should be pretty easy but it all depend...
If your top competitors are microsoft.com, youtube.com and facebook.com well... good luck. You will probably never rank.
Also, is it a brand new domain or aged? Any existing backlinks? Exact keyword as a domain name? If, say, your are in UK, .co.uk will usually outrank .com as well as .com.au will outrank .com in Australia.
There are many factors.

The domain is 2 years old. Main 2-worded keyword is in the domain name. Domain is like 2-wordedkeyword+suffix.com.
Searches for the main keyword are 135k exact.
Searches for 22-25 long tail keywords are between 1k - 5k exact.
Getting main keyword ranked might be tough. I'm mainly targeting those long tail keywords. Market Samurai shows lots of green matrix in competition analysis. Means on-page optimization isn't good on competitors sites. I've just posted half the articles on my site and I haven't run any linkbuilding campaigns yet. I've got most of the tools to follow your blueprint, don't have xrumer.

135K searches per month? It is like 2000 SEOT in Market Samurai, right?
You don't have to have Xrumer. Order some cheap blasts to start with. Or use SENuke's profile blaster. It's pretty good. With 2 year old website you can go nuts with blasting.
As for long tails, go for it if you think you get enough traffic from them. But with long tails you need to do on-page optimisation for each of them and then rank these pages. If you're sure you can drive traffic to any page of the website and then convert it then it's OK. Also, have a look if your competition for long tail keyword are pages too, not root of the domain. In my opinion it is hard to outrank root of the domain with a page.
Long tails are also tricky in terms your articles or web 2.0 might outrank your money site.
