this year i am trying to enter a university in my country and struggling for scholarship. If i fail scholarship i will have an opportunity for J1 visa (work and travel). The annual fee is 5k$ and believe me it is a big money in our country but my family can afford the 1-year and a ticket to USA.

As you now that there are summer work particilary for J1. Ranging from 7-12$/hour.BTW my time stay will be 3 1/2 month. (3 months for further calculations)

Here are the following questions:
1)Can i work at 3 jobs at a time. i mean 2 jobs from monday to friday. as i found the average worktime is 8 hours so let us just say my first work is 8 hours and the 2-nd one is 4 hours (is it possible? second job to work 4 hours) and as for the 3-rd job will be 8 hours saturday and sunday. Can i accumulate 5k$ in 3 months with such parameters?? and is it realistic?

2)I am arguing with my friend. He claims that only general works are available for J1 such as services. But as a progammer i've founds jobs on the internet especially for J1(it is said in the descriptions). What is your opinion?

3)In separate and in average how much money will be send for accomodation and food?? Food on daily basis?

PS: i know this may be the wrong forum but the black hatters here have the skill of the money management =)))

You are coming to the wrong country if you are looking for a job thats for damn sure. the dollar has lost 18% its value in the past 11 months alone, unemployment for actual american citizens is probably at 20% for the actual rate, inflation they lie to you about because it doesn't include fuel or food costs in their rate.

If I were you I would head to Brazil, they have a large english speaking population, job opportunity, cost of living is still decent, and great atmosphere.

Check the limits of the J1. I believe and IANAL that the work you do is limited to being related to the course of work that you are studying.

Go read up on the J1 at wikipedia or whereever. I think you would run into trouble with INS if you are doing a foundation course for CS, but workign at McDs, BK, and a car wash.

instead of buring your ass off on 3 different jobs, why dont you just be an entrepreneur????
build yourself some decent sites and make money sitting on your couch

are u guys talking about office work jobs??? cause i am not. As wrangler mentioned workplaces above i am talking about such things. I can make doing IM in a year but i just want the experience. I am refering to the jobs which are available in the mentioned site j1jobs com

Why would he not be able to work anywhere we wants? How do they expect him to pay for school and living?

If your a IMer then yes, the USA is 1 big playground, but if u talking about actually working somewhere..stay where u are, its no better in the USA.

OK here's the work limitation - doesn't need to be related to course of study (so McD is fine) but can only work for 4 months during summer vacations, based on what I jsut read.

so can i make 5k to pay my fee?
the work and travel visa is in summer.

Well apart from what angela said about it generally not being a good job market at the moment, not many palces will take you on for only 4 months, and certainly not with any decent wages.

If you are a programmer you time might be better spent just doing jobs on the internet to see if you can make that type of money. Or you could develop a software solution yourself and then sell the product for 5k to someone else(if it's a good solution) or just market it yourself.

all right then my friend this year is going there i will plan my further actions according to his results

As for food, one American sized meal will keep you full for the day lol lol lol.

If your a programmer head over to Odesk.com and start making money now. What are you waiting for? :)

yeah listen to all the people posting..... jobs are not that easy to find.... some people can't find one job in a year let alone 3 in 3 months. and if you do they are not gonna pay much and u might just barley make 5k after killing yourself to do it.

I agree with the others in this thread, why bust your ass at 3 jobs to make 5k when you could use your programming/IM knowledge to make that much without killing yourself in the process?

I'm not one for "watercooler" talk, but from all the bitching I hear other people do, apparently it's hard to find a job here in the states right now.

Damn near impossible where I live, the job market around here sucks, big-time. I know people who have been actively looking for jobs for over 2 years. Even the minimum wage jobs are filled, and people aren't quitting like they used to.

And it is going to get worse, I'm afraid...
