Question about rumours about celebrities

Hi.

I've got a really controversial subject that I think would have a high click through rate on facebook ads. It'll be a complete lie though about an important celebrity. Can/Will I get into to trouble for posting an ad like this, with maybe a link to a fake story.

Suppose a similar idea could go for twitter too. (Like that Jackie Chan is dead hoax).

You are talking about buying an ad on FB with a link to a website to fake information?
It is a tacky idea. If I clicked through and it was something really bad like a death I would probably complain to FB.
UNLESS! It was a funny website that makes it obvious you are playing with the reader. You would have to make sure you stayed away from reports that will upset people. Remember the ALFLAC duck and the earthquake.

Basically, yeah.

People might take it seriously I guess. I was just thinking of the traffic, though I can't really see a good way to monetise that. Got two ideas at the moment floating around my head. Trying to decide which one to dedicate my time to.

Maybe the lying isn't the best route to go down.

Lying and making false claims can get you busted, but parody is cool. If you can twist it into a parody or a spoof, you should be ok. You'll have to be obvious about it.
