I have read so many different opinions about those not-so-popular extensions that I don't really know if they are good or not. Some people (very professional people who really should know what they are talking about) say that you can rank as well with info than with any other extension. The problem is that many people only click on those popular domains because they don't really value rare domain names high in terms of trustworthiness.

My opinion is that you should be able to rank well with info but it might take some more work.. I have a site with WS extension and it's ranked very high with a competitive keyword in adult industry..

Do keep in mind though, that they won't be as cheap when it comes to renewal time.

I know many folks who monetize on .info's all day long. I personally only use them for app hosting, cloaking/blanking and redirects.

As with most things, there's a lot of grey area questions. You can make money on a site in the sandbox, afterall, or one that isn't even indexed in the serps, so a domain name for under a buck is worth a great deal more, depending on what you do with it.
