confused about keywords

hey

u know wen u are trying to SEO a website u search on google with "" (double quotes) to see how many sites you are competing with right?

basically when i put my keyword in between "" i get only 1 website, but wen i remove the "" there are over 380k sites
does this mean the keyword is very hard to be ranked in ?

No its not that, from what i understand the keywords with quotes are like keywords that are in your topic or content i think.

hashir, when using the quotes the results you get tell you how many other pages on the web are competing for that exact phrase and in G's index.

When you search without the quotes, what G00gle shows you is every page that has the words from your phrase on them, but not always in order.

For example, if your phrase is "red copper widgets" and you search that on G with quotes you might get 5,000 results. That means G knows of 5,000 pages with that exact phrase on them.

If you search for that phrase without the quotes you might get 500,000 results, because every page with the words "red", "copper" and "widgets" anywhere in the content is being shown here, even if each word is in a different paragraph on the page.

Exactly. If you only get 1 hit for your phrase then you need to ask yourself why. Is it because it's a phrase no-one will ever actually search for? For example "black leather pianos" will return zero results - probably because there aren't any! But "black leather piano" will return results because ""black leather piano stool" occurs a number of times. However, it's more likely that no-one will ever search for "black leather pianos" so it would be a waste of time building a site round it.

On the other hand - one of the sites I built for a client has a 3 word phrase which is also the name of the site. The site ranks consistently at No 2 in Google (No 1 is taken by a forum where the phrase has occurred a couple of times). It also takes #3, #4 and #5. But, basically it's a 'local' site and includes a location name.

place you key word in here to see how many times a day it is being searched for in the search engines freekeywords.wordtracker.c0m/ to see if its even being looked for.

If you search just for say
dog food

you will get all results from this two words.
dog food
dog shit
sea food
and so forth

this is called broad match.

Then with ""
You will get phrase match
It need to have both dog and food but can be in any order or any place on the same page.

then you have exact match []
[dog food]
will only return when there exactly that in the page.
