Shared IP's VS SE Rankings?

A few years ago I came across a debate on another forum about using shared IP's for your websites affecting your SE rankings and the consensus seemed to be that this didn't matter. As I was using a shared IP on around 50 sites and had good rankings I tended to agree.

The last 12 months despite my efforts some of my sites have sunk SE wise yet a few have P3 google rankings that are on the same IP.

Thoughts? I am on a new host for my dedicated box and can get additional IP's for a lousy 2 bucks, but this issue seems to be fairly divided and any input would be appreciated.

I have about 300 adult blogs on one ip on a dedicated server i never had any problems with the SE, i truly believe that the IP thing is a myth, like a lot a shit you hear and read are myths, brought in by people ho wanna look important.

The only thing you should not do is interlink all these sites, test has proven me that if you do, G will drop your site into the basement of the SERPS.

Do you think that a company like Hostgator is going to give every $5- account a new IP address? and all those sites rank normally (if SEO is done properly)

The individual IP myth is not about having a bunch of sites all on one IP not being able to rank its that having a bunch of sites that are all on the same IP linking to another site will not pass on as much link love as a bunch of sites on unique IPs.

You can have 1000 sites on one IP rank for a niche if they all have their own set of links, however if you have 1000 sites on one IP and hope that by interlinking they will all rank you will have some issues.

Just make sure all your sites have their own link profile and you should be good to go.

to make it clearer - if you have 100 sites and you interlink them on the same IP, then you will surely have a problem - this is very basic

now if you have 100 sites sharing the same IP and having the same niche/keywords, dont expect them to all rank because only 1 or 2 sites can SERP on a given niche/keywords whos IP is the same

if you want all your 100 sites to rank for the same niche, you need to host them on different class C IPs

An IP consist of 4 parts AAA.BBB.CCC.xxx - the first part is called A-class, the second part B-class and the third part C-class. So any IP under the last part will be in the same C-class. So for example:

123.123.123.1 and 123.123.123.2 are in the same C-class but
123.123.123.1 and 123.123.124.1 is in two different C-classes

So if youre just saying that why not just a different IP address, question is how do you define a different IP address? Because as for example:

123.123.123.1 and 123.123.123.2 are DIFFERENT IP addresses BUT they are on the same C-class, therefore, it is useless for SEO purposes

shared ip thing hurts if you are linking to the sites on the same ip.thats my personal experience though.

I dont know if this would hurt your SERPs as much as it would be a waste of energy. I certainly dont think it would help your cause to be honest.

If you are looking for some link love go to some social bookmarking sites, the bigger the better and post a couple of deep pages to each account ( dont do more than 2 though).

Then go over to some blog sites (blogger, WP etc) that allow you to get a free blog simply by signing up. Start some blogs with posts that link directly back to your site, make sure you have plenty of ping services (http://elliottback.com/wp/archives/2004/11/21/a-list-of-rpc-and-rpc2-to-ping/) listed to gain max exposure and quick indexing.

Maybe try some directory submissions, DigiXmas is great for this if you have a WH site you care about, you can try roboform or just manually submit to say 10-50 sites.

All good and very easy ways to gain backlinks, much better than interlinking sites on same IP. When you get the idea of what all of these processes involve then by all means get software to automate it. Hope that helps a bit
