Interesting Sick Backlinking Strategy

So I was checking out the backlinks of my competitor and I come to find that a lot of his backlinks are from sites like this

www.kotbrochester.com

A bunch of sites that have the exact same "article" all with a PR of 4. With no backlinks themselves..

I dig deeper and find the competitor made a post on a forum stating how he got sites to rank #1 by purchasing front page links on high pr sites.

And we're talking about a very competitive keyword.

If anybody has experience with this or knows where to buy these links please share.

This is nothing new. As i worked for an SEO agency this was business as usual for competitive keywords. Even more standard if you want to rank for keys like "iphone".
Look for high ranking topic relevant blogs, shoot a bid for a link in a comment. Shoot a higher bid for the only link in the comments and close commenting after yours. InContent goes also, but in this point the bloggers get real greedy and $$ in their eyes.

edit: Did not see your example until now. I think this works like the following. Someone is purchasing a high PR - Domain. Makes content and sells links out of this article. - I talked about real blogs, with real readers which gain you natural traffic, too.

I would not buy links on sites like that due to:
- large numbers of OBL
- 0 pages indexed, 0 backlinks...wtf?
- if the site is not indexed, how will your links be found?

There are many other networks on which you can buy more valuable links, my 2 cents..

Ya, that's why it's weird.

All his other backlinks are crap and he's held top spots for a number of competitive keywords for a good 6 months. Then I read him saying all he did was get those kinds of links and it makes me think..

I've never bought links on sites before so please let me know your recommendation.

I had a guy do this and not only out rank me but he ranked position 2 on page one for a keyword that gets 300k searches per month. He was clearly using blog networks with spun garbage. But the example you have is well beyond spun garbage, It's straight spam with a massive amount of external links. Links are same color as the text so you gotta hover over them to see them all or check source code. You wouldn't think a link like that would be worth anything as it's incredibly spammy.

Problem with blog comments are soo many of them are nofollow nowadays, so I've been looking into guest blogging as a solution

If you ask me buying links on relevant, authority, high pr sites is probably best use of advertising dollars.

@mikeybobikey I think classipress would work great.. I set up something like that using it.
