phpBB or Cracked vBulletin ?

I've heard some say that hosts are wary of cracked scripts.

If that is the case, then PHPBB.

If host does not mind running cracked scripts, then VB ftw.

don't ever get a nulled script if you plan on running it long term
phpbb sucks, the closest thing to good... that is free is simple machines forum

if you get SMF. do NOT get the version from your hosting provider.
they will give you 1.1.12
currently there is 1.1.13 out and its better. but still don't get that even.

dunno about other stuff, but when it comes to forums, ur d man cyrus .. thanks a ton!!

and yes iam planning to take it long term, this forum wld make it big if I just promote it nicely... as of now I cant spend on vB and then another $150 bux on vbseo plugin... i guess smf would be a wise choice...

you see those big warez forums with members close to millions and posts in the 3 millions or something. I see most of them running VB or PHPBB. Are they running cracked VB? How can you tell what they are running?

Any ideas man?

Interesting question... it would be funny if the owner of a warez forum buys a VB license

Yes. its interesting considering that some of VB warez forums that i see have more than 700k members and 3+ million posts and VBSEO plugin too. That;s why i asked?

I know, but Iam hesitating in using cracked stuff cz its basically a legit forum and I might look to sell it later on... and at that time cracked forum wouldnt sell...

Have you tried PHPBB 3? It should be much better than the old version.
I haven't tested it but some people I've talked to say that they even prefer it over vBulletin.

Go with a free forum-script and then later change over to vBulletin if you want to.

yaa ur right.. but now its come down to smf or phpbb

ive installed smf... installing plugin packages is much more easier in smf... also installed seo friendly urls package... next mission.. populating the forum

Hi guys

Sorry Neo dont mean to derail your thread but it may be a problem you will come across later to so thought I'd ask everyone else, hope you dont mind. SMF gets a lot of spam sign ups, people with weird emails, I do block them but recently a new forum I run dropped from being fifth for my keyword term to being on the tenth page of Google, it's a new forum but I'm just a little surprised as to why this happen.

Any reason? Suggestions guys? Again sorry if off topic.

On a side note, when would you reco a switch from SMF to VB?

Don't forget to look at mybb. I like it more than vBulletin version 4, less than vBulletin v3.8+. It's better than SMF in my opinion.

Before using cracked version check if it has infection to introduce frames later on.
I would phpbb for start-up

If you're putting serious effort into the forum and want it to be a long term success then just fork out for vbulletin. Changing platforms later on can kill a message board, plus it's a real pain in the ass migrating from one platform to another.

I recently got a vbulletin forum site without the license, and don't have the money to buy the license. Is it hard to do the converison from vbulletin 3 to phpbb?
