Godaddy just gave out on me...

Have godaddy shared hosting...

has been getting up to 20k Unique Visitors a day

now all of a sudden... it just can't keep up ..
not even with just 10k a day... it goes down..
adsense impressions are going down...

it goes down and takes down all 30+ sites hosted
on the same server....not my sites but other peoples...

talked to them and they say everything is fine on their end...
they say the website is not down... but i have tried to access it
from different Internet providers... and when traffic is up...
the site is not accessible...


time to get dedicated server... i guess...

Any suggestions....

dedicated for 20k a day is not needed. Heck, a shared account can handle that many EASILY.

VPS should be taken when you have 1+ per second.
Dedicated is needed when you got like 5+ visitors per second.

Skip godaddy, their webhosting sucks horribly.

go hostgator 2nd plan. Price is the same as godaddy's. You get plenty of domains you can add and they'll run perfectly.

I would go with VPS.
Invest in your hosting, get a good one [these days you can have something good and don't par fortune for it] and it will never let you down. At least in 99 out of 100 cases.

Don't move to hostgator if you are starting to get a lot of traffic, they don't like it. Just a few search on google, you will find that a lot of people requested by Hostgator to upgrade their plan to VPS or Dedicated.

I would also avoid Hostgator if you're running into problems with GoDaddy. Hostgator is known for not living up to their "unlimited" offerings and high traffic/high usage sites often suffer at Hostgator. Since you have solid traffic, you want a solid host. For quality shared hosting, I'd recommend Downtown Host. They have a strong reputation and a quality product. Additionally, if you pay for 12mo of hosting (which you may or may not want to do) the monthly price is the same as Hostgator's monthly price. You can pay longer terms and get even greater discounts. They can also upgrade you to a VPS when the time comes.

If you think you want to jump to a VPS, there are a lot of options, but here are some particularly good choices: Downtown Host, FDCServers, Future Hosting, Innohosting and Knowhost (top of the top).

if you going to use vps i recommended linode,
my server uptime more than 1000 day before I reboot because i upgrade my OS to debian 6

but, they are unmanaged

consider caching your site as much as possible to bring down the processes.

put garbage collection time to longer, and enable as many caching options as you can.

if you're running wordpress, it can be a total resource hog and caching is necessary to manage it.

I can testify about GoDaddy as I've had major issues in all aspects, including having 5 of my domains hijacked from someone in another country through them.

I've switched to InMotion and Customer Service is way better, plus their VPS service provides way more than GoDaddy. I wound up getting into many heated battles with GoDaddy's Customer Service as they love saying that if it's not their product, it's not their problem.

Just do some good research, and if you've got a busy website, don't just jump on the cheapest deal as it can wind up costing you.

that is a very bad method to judge... how do u know how the mysql queries are designed in his website.... and how many resources its using... it happened with my site too and i made a big mistake by not moving to a dedi on time... i lost rankings as there were heaps of 500 internal server errors...

I personally hate godaddy for anything but domain registration. And even with that I only keep using them out of habit. I recomend Rackspace and I really like both there cloud sites or cloud servers options. I lean more to the cloud sites option as then I dont have to worry about the server at all.

I will admit that it is a little bit more of an upfront cost and unless you are planningon having a whole lot of sites or selling hosting it might not be the right tool for you. I have an account and might be able to help out.

As a last note. Any hosting company that promises unlimited anything, I view as a pile of crap. In the hosting world everything costs something, and from what I find when something is unlimited, that thing or another part of the hosting is extremely week. i.e. godaddy shared hosting over selling there product and crappy support.

Based on my experiences, I'd go with a hostgator VPS and upgrade as needed.

edit: after skimming a few of the other replies, I figured I'd clarify that while HG's shared hosting isn't the greatest, I've only had good experiences with their VPS packages.
