Sometimes Godaddy has discounts where you can get domains for really cheap... there's no way they're not losing money with them. GD isn't known as a very ethical registrar so I don't trust them. Is there some hidden catch?

By default, their domains are on auto-renew, so unless you turn it off, you get screwed out of $10 or whatever their regular rate is if you forget (I forgot).

And don't forget the upsells like hosting and other crap which are checked automatically and unless you un-check them you'll pay an additional $10-30!

I have had GoDaddy hold domains ransomed for several hundred dollars, GoDaddy is crap IMHO and not worth the time. I would rather pay full price and know that my domain belongs to me and not have the CRAZY X-fer fee's or get ransomed than use GoDaddy.

U want a decent spot.. Try NameCheap.. they rock.

I don't think there is any catch in discounts. That's just a promotional technique.

In a lot of their "promotions" they also sneak a free trial of their web building product, "website tonight" into the shopping cart and after 3 months you start getting charged monthly for it... so you always have to check to remove those things.

Be careful with promotions. I had bought a domain and am in the process of transferring it. Turns out they will charge my credit card with $20 for the transfer.

they are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get, just wait for the 'your account has been blocked' message

With the .99 domains they usually add two things that a free for a month or two and then you get charged. Make sure you remove that at the check out.

I love GD for their cheap service. And how could you say that GD isn't known as a very ethical registrar.I think they are best seller and also cheap for Domain.I know their hosting and other service as not good. But for registration Domain they are Boss everytime. :yup:

You are mistaken. Their prices are the most expensive unless you get a coupon. Have you tried anyone else? Example: internet.bs has $7.49 .coms - compare that to GD.

I have never had a problem with Godaddy and I have bought a LOT of domains.

Sure but in GD everytime you can get 30% discount by Coupon.I think their 30% coupon is opened 24x7x30x12 hours of a year.

in Godady you can request for refund before five days after auto renewal (if you forget to turn it off like me), yesterday i have submit a ticket for it and all refund is clearly 48 hours

So far I used godaddy and hostgator. I think it's a good combo. I wouldn't use the GoDaddy hosting services though.
What are good alternatives to GoDaddy? Thanks.

I havent had a problem with GD. Granted some of their coupons require you buy webservice or something and they do hit you with a load of upsells on the way to the cart, but for the most part, if you have a cheap coupon, it is what it is, with no hidden issues.

I updated id dprotect the other day with a cheap GD coupon with no problems or hidden charges.

Sometimes is a catch they also add you on the cart some free stuffs. The free stuffs are for 2 montsh then you are paying for them is you don't desactivate them

i have never had any issues with godaddy. been with them for years

me too! no issues with godaddy whatsoever! They have been very sweet to me! :) <3
