Help With Finding Good Niche/Keyword

I'm having trouble finding a niche that I can test out. I'm trying to get started with making wordpress blogs and getting traffic from "under the radar" keywords that don't have heavy competition just so I can get some experience with this area of internet marketing. People are telling me it all depends on keyword research, and that it might take some time. So basically what I'm asking is:

What are some ways you guys find out about new niches or certain "under the radar" keywords to help you gain some traffic?

I don't think that anybody is going to give you their formula to finding niche keywords on here.
However, by using software such as Market Samurai and finding long tail keywords is the best way to go.

Lol so you're telling me that I have to spend money right? I've looked at two threads so far that talk about keyword research and one tells me straight up to buy a software that costs like $100 a month, while the other thread talks about another paid software without going into much detail on the actual science of finding profitable keywords.

There has to be a free tool out there that can help me out?

try looking for market samurai in the downloads section. also look in the money making section sticky. you might get on to something.

The "free tool" is right above your shoulders.

There are so many threads and posts here discussing about keyword research that you only need to use that "free tool" systematically.

BTW, think what are the things that are hot and selling well in eBay, Amazon, etc., and even in CB... You must have come across how to use those strategies in various threads also.

Go to your competitors' sites (in your niche) and spy on their keywords...
then go one up by creating better content based on those products/services, get your site up in the top 3 in serps, and so on.

Because spending money isn't on list, I don't suggest using PPC...
