Two of my sites are nowhere to be found in google for any keyword. I was an authority site ranking #1 for my main family of keywords and 1st page for any other related keyword. I was getting 1000+ visitors/day now it dropped to under 100/day.

I did absolutely nothing, I never did any blackhat stuff on these sites, haven't done any link building in 2 years (they grew naturally though). Haven't updated them in 1 year.

In Google Webmaster Tools there are no warnings or strange things, except for some 404 errors due to incorrect links from other sites (my internal links are ok).

I have no idea why this happened. I hope its a temporary Google bug. Maybe somebody can give me some ideas or suggestions...

Than you

same thing happened to me. I think google's in the middle of lots of changes. hopefully this is temporary.

I think we're talking about the Google Dance here boys... they've been shaking up the algo a lot in the last week or so. The other possibility is that maybe a competitor of yours mistakenly thought it would be a good idea to go Google Bowling on your money page and now you've got a bunch of junk links pointing to you that you didn't have before.

The good thing about this is that in the long run it can only help, and regardless you should come back out right where you were before, possibly even higher.

UNLESS of course your site is all dupe content and it shouldn't have been at the top to begin with. Then you might have a problem. Give it a few days - it should normalize soon.

yeah my site is bouncing like an earthquake the last day too. but dont worry. it will be all fine :)

give it a few days, see what happens, could be a temp thing, lots of shuffling going on lately

If it has only been a few days, then you cannot know what's happened at this stage.

Most likely, you will return to your original position.

However, if your site is important enough (traffic-wise), there is always a chance that you have been hit by a manual Google quality rater.

I had a celebrity website which was getting 30,000 uniques a day. To get this traffic, I was using the Google Trends method, basically just ripping off other articles about recent celebrity trends - altering them so they were unique, but the quality of the content was low.

One day, traffic went down to near zero. I checked the visotor log - sure enough, I had been visited by someone from mountain view.

So if your content was questionable and you were pulling a lot of traffic for an important keyword, then this is possibly what happened.

If not, then I expect you will be back up in a matter of days.

I think Micallef has the best, or really even the only answer to this. It's probably just a reshuffliing going on in the index, wait a few days till the shuffle is done and hopefully it'll sort itself out. If not then you may need to take a harder look at the content and guality of the site. If it's a quality guidelines issue then you'll have to decide if you want to start making content and design changes.

I'd wait a bit to see if it's really a long term problem or not though first.

edit-
Another thing, you might check the keywords trends. Are they still showing the same volume for searches? Some things do change over time. Also, if it's a keyword phrase, googles autosearch could be affecting that too. If before they finish typing the phrase your going for they're already seeing relevant results showing on the serp then you're screwed. You may need to give some thought to how you might optimize for that.

Yeah. Most likely it's another dance. My results has been bouncing since mid last week. So I wouldn't worry. Happened last month also.

Thank you to all for replying.

I hope it's just a Google dance. I see some of you experience it, so probably that's the thing.

The site is 100% witehat and the best site for the niche and 2nd best site for the market. All content (60+ pages) of unique high quality content. Only thing is the content is not up to date. Its an electronics site and all the products are about 6 months old and not the latest models. I doubt this is the problem.

It seems that now it popped on #60-80 for the main keyword.

@GreyWolf keyword traffic is normal. Bing and yahoo send normal traffic. I also checked for malware problems, link injection and other nasty things.

I'll update the thread if something changes.

Some of mine dropped as well, but what is weird is I have similar sites that did not

Same happened to me from page 2 dropped to page 600-700 ALL KEYWORDS.

dropped for all keywords except company name ! lol , and then when i google company name + keyword i get nada ! , i only get results if i google company name...but i google company name plus anything other keyword its no where to be seen...........................p0000f like i never even existed

Same thing for me. I think it's Google dance. It happens from time to time. I think we should wait for a while and Google will get us back sooner or later. Last time it took 3 weeks for me to get back where I was. So relax and wait. Otherwise you could harm yourself with wrong panic actions doing wrong SEO.

Agree with that.

SEO (specific google) isn't static. They change every week.
I got an ecommerce site and every day one of my product pages go strange, even if I do nothing.

Just relax and wait (I known just wait is something the ansiety can't understand), but just wait :) Otherwise you'll change things on your site that can harm you.

These days, you can see the effect of a change in a week or two, so a wrong foot step and you can go wrong and stay there for 15+ days.

My vote is to continue building content and linking to it (the right way of course).

Sorry... it stinks, that's for sure.

FWIW, I have one site that is doing the same but a couple others that (so far) are A-Ok.

Hope it comes back quickly!

Same thing happened to me but whats interesting is it seems to be all the sites i have on the same server get affected at the same time. They go from 2nd spot to 4th page and back. It's some crazy stuff but google dance can be strange. Both these sites are about 6 months old now so quite new....

Almost the same thing has happened to one of my well-ranked site! It is still a PR 4 site but positions of all ranked keywords have been dropped overnight. Of course, keywords are still ranked well on Bing and Yahoo. :(

Man same thing happened to me. Started 2 days ago.

Im really hoping its the google dance and I did not get sandboxed

Because I pinged a big xrumer blast before I read not to..

Don't worry my fellow whitehatters. We are all experiencing it.

Let us hold hands and pray that Google did not defy our clean lives as pure individuals.

Amen to that brother! Now let us pray to almighty Google! :pray2:
