Does anyone know if several thousand accounts from the same IP would get banned if they all followed only one person?

If you have several hundreds account on the same IP... you'd be banned. Regardless if following someone or not.

Theoretically 10, but if you don't want to get banned then much less than that.

You're asking questions that no one can accurately answer without knowing exactly what you're doing. Just use common sense and think of the ways that the twitter anti spam team probably operates and the things that they could use to flag accounts.

If you are thinking of using your own accounts to boost your own follower count, I can tell you from experience that it doesn't work very well and it's an easy way for them to track you => mass bannings.

You should always operate with the assumption that all of your accounts will get banned, because they almost undoubtedly will at some point. If you get spam complaints then it doesn't matter how many IPs you signed up with, how many followers you have or how real your account looks, it will still get banned.

Well what I'm doing is this. I know that Twitter will ban you if you get too many followers too quickly, so I had an idea. What if I made a whole shit-ton of accounts, and had them all follow one person? It would be like having a Twitter sniper rifle. Really just something I wanted to play around with. So, when trying to find a way to create 10k fake Twitter accounts for free, I wanted to know how many I could create per IP, since I plan on using the BHT Twitterbot.

You want to get other people banned? That's really lame and a total waste of time, where is the profit in that? Chances are it wouldn't work if you were talking about targeting real accounts since there would be too much real activity, too many real tweets and too much history associated with the account.

Also Twitter doesn't ban for getting too many followers too quickly. Otherwise the celebs who pick up thousands of followers a day would get banned. Twitter bans for too much rapid follow / unfollow activity and mass unfollowing.

I don't want to get other people banned; I just like seeing what can and can't be done. Also, this thread is titled "Theory regarding Twitter", and it's just that: theory. Trust me, if all I wanted was to get people banned, I'd look into somehow assaulting the Twitter mainframe. I just like doing cool stuff- and to me, creating an instant banhammer for Twitter would be cool (though using it, of course, would be very much the opposite). Call it morbid curiosity.

Anyways, thanks for all the info; I appreciate the help. I may need to re-evaluate this theory, if accounts don't get banned for getting followers too rapidly. I have a few other ideas for cool stuff to do with Twitter, but I'll need to do some more research. Admittedly, I'm pretty unfamiliar with the specifics of it.
