I'm in my late 20's ...too late to learn to program....??

I was told that I am too old ( currently late 20s ) ..to learn how to program.

I have been told that even if I spent the next few years learning to code lets say PHP...I wouldnt be that good and it wouldnt be worth my time.

It would be best to just to pay someone and I should have learned how to code when i was 17..

Any advice ??

Not true. It's never too late. Also, even if you aren't going to become super skilled, knowing how the languages work and how coding works in general gives you some IM ideas you would never have gotten if you did not have that knowledge. Trust me, I speak from experience - most of the ideas I profit from, I would not have gotten if I did not know they were possible ;)
 
There is no age limit my friend! I am eighteen and I still have a hard time learning/lack of motivation to do so. It really has nothing to do with your age, but is entirely dependent upon your mindset and how determined you are. It is a lot of work but it's a really euphoric feeling when you accomplish projects you've coded yourself. And an even better feeling being so self reliant on yourself where you can code programs and scripts for whatever your needs are. I am learning PHP currently and I might stop at that. I am a marketer and there's really no need to be both a programmer and a marketer.

Starting young is only seen as great because you've had a much longer time to learn everything and develop your skills, but being young definitely doesn't make you learn any better.
 
It only takes a year to be proficient and to be capable of earning a 50-60k income from programming, more if you are a good freelancer.

The thing is, programming isn't for everyone, it takes a certain mindset. There are alot of average programmers out there, in the past week we've been through 5 $100/hour PHP programmers trying to find one good enough to finish a job for us (I work at a web-dev firm), you can make good money even as an average programmer, and if you have attention to detail you can get alot of return business.
 
If you have the extra time then why not. I know of a lady who decided shes wants to be a doctor at the age of 52 and nothing stopped her.
You have to be really interested in learning it though, if you are not a tech kind of a guy then you will probably lose the motivation to learn really quick.

That's BULL! If you take the time and dedication you can easily learn PHP and start building your own scripts instead of relying on coders 24/7. Outsourcing your work isn't as set it and forget it as you would think. You have to be there to manage these people, answer all their questions, provide support, approve things, etc. It can be time consuming. My 3 virtual assistants take only about 30-45 minutes a day together. My programmers take up hours of my time per day when they're working on something big. Maybe it's just the people I work with though.. programmers.. bah. :p
 
If you have the time to learn then it's never too late to learn anything.

But if you have the money to invest, I would say just to hire someone for the job.

Well what language would benefit me as an Internet marketer.

I would assume PHP ??

No, it's not too late. I thought about that as well when I decided I want to learn programming. In the end, I just do it.

I started to learn programming seriously at about this time last year. Now, a year later I'm able to make my own bot/automation tool using .net and planning to learn php as well sometime this year.

Btw, this year I will be 31 years old.

What do you want to do? Define that, and you'll get your answer.

For me, I always interested in automation tool and a desktop application. So, I decided to learn a .net language.

which language did you choose and any resources you can suggest for someone learning? i'm really interested in automation programming, thnx
 
Definitely not too late, late 20s isn't even old. Programming is great for your mind and in some ways it's easier to learn when you're a little older - you have better focus, concentration, ability to keep long term goals in mind etc.

Go for it. It's a skill you can use for a life time.

Start programming right away. Don't let anyone stop you.

If you want to build industrial strength applications and aim for real volume (eg. truly high volume link spamming scripts), learn linux / unix and PHP. PH PHP is universally supported and there is already a heap of good stuff written in PHP that you can use / cannibalize. Python is also an excellent full featured language to learn with real usefulness.

If you want to sell your programs to internet marketers, learn a windows language. Most noob marketers only want windows programs.
 
I just started learning myself (34 here) and I don't regret a thing about it considering I have a goal in mind. You know what they say,"Once you stop learning, you stop living".

Well I am interested in building web properties for SEO...so I was thinking PHP and javascript ?

Am I on the right track ?? lol
 
Learning is a lifelong process... it's never to late to learn anything.
