the sandboxed myth

my site that was on google droop in the middle of nowhere. I look at the penalty checker and it indicate severe pnelaty. My link is very similar to that of the original site.
What can I do to clean an affiliate link? There are automatic tool?

The argument that G does not penalize a site for too many backlinks cuz you can do it to your competitor is not true. Let's analise everything carefully. I believe that G does not have a negative penalty, but simple devalues the links created.

The problem here is that G cannot determine legitimate links from not legitimate. Let's say i blast my competitor with several links and G devalues them all. This site will drop because G devalued not only the links i created ( not legitimate ), but the ones that were built by the site owner ( legitimate links ).

If this is what really happens, then the answer is yes, you can hurt your competitor indirectly by devaluing his legitimate links.

Now I must say I love this thread and it makes a lot of sense to me actually!:trytofly:now lets seet back and enjoy google love

I agree with this 100%. Most of the times it is just google dance that people panic about. Another important thing is Link Velocity.

This should be easy to test ?
Have 2 the same domain names, same website with 2 unique articles having the same and same amount of keyword(s) in it , same seo etc.
One site gets blasted with links and the other not. This will be easy to track short and longterm what will happen or not.

Probably there are people here on this forum who already do these kinds of tests.

Tensegrity, what kind of pyramid do you use?
moneysite<-Tier1<-Tier2 ?

More tiers? Also how many per tier 1,2 etc

thanks

Yes, that works. Chain your links, you'll get more "link power" out of them if you do.

HI... To add my perspective on this. I am no SEO genius, but one thing is true. IF backlinks could ruin a site and put it on blacklist, the simplest thing one should do is blast his competition with a zillion backlinks and enjoy business coming your way. Now if every site did that, we would have a sandbox larger than google itself.

I think your argument makes sense dude. And I totally agree on penalty for on site optimization. One thing is a fact, content remains KING in SEO. Black, white, grey, red or even pink hat! Scraping content, spun content is bound to cause trouble. Have them on web 2.0 properties if you cannot get unique content, but never on the money site IMO.

It's a proven fact that scraped (or duplicate) content does not hurt your ranking as well. Duplicate content filter only applies to two pages on the same site with the same exact content. However, Google recently said they were applying a filter for scraped content, which is disasterous for autoblogs. It's also copyright infringement to scrape large bodies of content, which is illegal, so beware.

On the flipside, spinning content makes it unique enough to not be illegal, depending on how well you spin of course.

If you re-wrote your title tags, removed keyword stuffing, added more unique content, then logged into "webmaster tools" (type it in google), then you can submit your site for reconsideration and almost always you'll get your site out of the deindex. It usually takes less than 1 month.

Repeat after me: You will not get deindexed for too many backlinks.

Anyone who get their site deindexed was breaking Google TOS by using javascript to trick googlebot or something illegal or maleware.

Alas, if you remove these things from your site and get some backlinks from indexed sites, you'll be reindexed very quickly.

When i was still young and foolish and unwise with SEO, I thought this too and I tried it out a couple times. All i did was help my competitors. So, no, you are wrong.

Yes, I'm one of them, hence the thread :p

Too may backlinks won't hurt in the long or short run, but if Google doesn't "trust" your site then it will negatively affect rankings.

Even a noob in SEO can see that if I buy a package of 1000s of backlinks and direct them to my competitors website then it would screw up his rankings. Duh!!

So Google obviously realises this too. But if your competitors site has been around for a while and has not been instigated in fraudulent or spanmming activity in the past then he is in the clear and will be laughing. :D

One of my sites have recently dropped out of the top 100 pages just for the keywords I built links for. The rest of the keywords are fine.
I built around 3000 backlinks. Its been dropped now for around 2 weeks and Im starting to worry.

What do you suggest to get my rankings back?

actually sandbox is like my worst enemy :(

i have several sites that have been up and down all the time, like 2 weeks in top 10 then disappear from top 100 for another 2 weeks, back in top 10, and so on (has been like that in the past few months)

do u know why my sites go up and down all the time? (And sorry they are not for few days, but up for 2 weeks then down for 2 weeks, up again for 2 weeks, and so on)

But what happens to the sites which are new? Like just a couple of months?
What do you think Tensegrity?

Yes, I have the same question as Descartes. I am launching a site with a recently registered domain and I am worried about it getting prematurely sandboxed by pointing spammy links at it.

If you must first build up quality links to balance out the spammy ones, what do you recommend as the best way to go about doing this?

This is absolutely NOT TRUE. There are reasons why a site's rankings will fluctuate, usually a combination of not enough *quality* backlinks to keep your rankings solid and a google dance due to lots of new pages getting indexed for the same keyword. But I guarantee you, you CANNOT get your competitor's site to screw up simply by pointing links at it. in fact, I urge you to try it. Watch your competitor's rankings improve and yours get pushed down :P

I run a backlinking service, i process a ridiculous amount of orders a week for hundreds of sites. I'm trying to help you guys out here, try to trust me when I tell you I know what I'm talking about from doing case studies on a daily basis.

Two weeks is not a long time. I usually give it a month or two before I start to worry. But as far as your particular site goes, I would need to know the keyword, the competition for it, the search volume, your on-site SEO, etc. These are all factors. But again, tons of backlinks are not the problem. If it was, then why would it help someone else using the same amount of links from the same sources? Think about it. There's something else going on, you just need to pinpoint it, do a more thorough job of SEO troubleshooting before you jump to conclusions.

You probably don't have enough high quality backlinks. Get like 5 - 10 high authority/high PR links and you should see a solid ranking. Then throw the low quality backlinks to push it further up. But low quality/spammy links alone aren't always going to work, especially for a highly competitive keywords. And again, google dancing happens when lots of new pages are indexed for the same keyword, so that means your competitors are doing a lot of link building as well and since you don't have enough high quality backlinks going on, you're experiencing the dance.

But what happens to the sites which are new? Like just a couple of months?
What do you think Tensegrity?

I made a brand new site and ran my blog network linking on it a week after i got it indexed (two weeks after i bought the domain, a brand new domain with no age) and got page 1 rankings for about 10 keywords. Granted these keywords are low - medium search volume and competition, that tells me that the sandbox from thousands of links is a complete myth, not only to a new site especially, but any site.

Do exactly that, you know what you're talking about already ;)

So, what's up Tensegrity? No answer on that?

Sorry, I guess I wasn't subscribed to the thread so i didn't realize people were posting. But I'm subscribed now, so feel free to ask more if you want.

I don't think I misunderstood him, he's just wrong -- my whole point is that it's not going to hurt anyone to point links at their site, that is what this thread is about. Unless maybe he was being sarcastic? Don't think he was tho.

Well, from today I can disagree with you guys. I had a site ranking #3 on the first page for about 2 months now and blasted with around 10k (only 3k indexed) spammy comments and it has now dropped to the page 59. The site is a bit over 3 months old.
I used 4 different anchor texts and I also deeplinked.
I think that maybe your site can not be penalized for spammy links once the site is old or has earned trust rank.
That's just what happened to me. I know, it sucks.
