Backlinks? What Backlinks?

Backlinks just dont seem to be working for me.

I have a site at spot 6 on Google. It is showing 4000 domain links.
My websites according to IBP have a 98% score and the number one and two have 27%.

I have been slowly adding backlinks, social bookmarking etc. I ran a number of Scrapebox blasts and posted about 100 spun articles. All my links are pinged and rss feeds submitted. I also post on as many article directories as possible.

I cant seem to get out of this #6 spot. In the last three days I have purchased xrumer blasts. I have personally written several articles that were spun into many, and these were submitted.

I use Ping.fm and submit all of this to most of their accounts.

SO-with all this, I cant move up a notch. Yahoo Site Explorer stays at 4000.,no matter what I do. It seems none of my linking is working at all.
That includes blog commenting, forum profiles, linking by hand, xrumer bursts.

So..... Why?

Site explorer tends to be a bit retarded when it comes to low quality links. Remember their spider isn't anything compared to googlebot. Also it takes them a while to update.

Maybe you need to investigate the competition's backlinks a bit more? If they have a heavy duty social or news presence then that will trump your more spammy links, as will simple domain age.

Also I noticed you put this in the white hat section, it's not really white hat any more if you're doing scrapebox and xrumer blasts.

What is the total amount of time you are talking about here?

The site has been up about four months. It has been at #6 for about two months.

Most of my links are quality high PR article directories PR3-7. The site at #4, has nothing really,sites are not quality seo is terrible.

I think it might be because of domain age. Patient is bless, don't stop getting backlinks and You will get #1.

This all brings me to the conclusion that SEO is almost dead.

The first fairy tale is that Google is trying to give the searcher the best answer to the query. Ha.

In the above situation of mine, the number two site has one page. On that one page, there is a half a post about the keyword and thats it.
It has a little over 100 links to the domain, and less than 20 links to the page. SEO software ranks it as being 26%. The links he does have are nothing great at all, looks like he used xgenseo. (due to the selection of the blogs Soulcast etc.) Seriously, this site is crap and continues to outrank pages with page ranks of 3 and 4, much better SEO and content, and thousands of backlinks. The only thing this site does have in its favor is the exact name url, but there are others that are just as good on page 3.

Sorry just letting off a little steam. I have written over 100 articles, not spun, on this subject. If you search for the subject and click on blog results in Google, all the returns are mine. And yet this one paragraph site dominates this product.

So really, I wouldnt study SEO too much because if you just study the end results you will see that most of it is crap.

You say thousands of backlinks but what's the quality? If they're all low PR comment spam and profile links sure they're worth something but you'd have to ask how much.

I also use profile links / comment spam / low pr article directories to get my tier two / three indexed and ranked but you can't beat some decent higher PR quality links from authority sites.

The problem is low quality = easy to get whereas high quality = more challenging / expensive to get.

I prefer to focus on the high quality because I rank quicker and easier with good quality links.

ding ding we have a winner! Exact matches are still an easy route to good rankings at this point in time. I've got a bunch of shitty sites with underdeveloped backlinks, but they rank great for the specific keywords in the domain name. I see this in the serps all the time.

I'd also concur with the above poster that if you find yourself stuck in the serps, a few good quality hard links (high PR, the right anchor text, not obviously paid, not too many links on the source page) can make all the difference.

I wouldn't say article dir links are very high quality. The domains themselves might be trusted to a degree but they're also content farms, and if you take EZA as an example, there are dozens and dozens of links on every page. The link juice is getting sliced pretty thin.

So really, I wouldnt study SEO too much because if you just study the end results you will see that most of it is crap.

Personally I think it's a myth that you can "study" SEO and get anything to rank. The basic formula of your basic on page stuff + backlinks doesn't change, except for the continual algo tweaks and re-rankings that you can't control. The "study" part is basically just checking out the competition to find more backlinks sources. Best to just build large amounts of stuff and do it all completely differently to weather out changes in the algo, and not stress too much about individual listings.

hehehe having bigger quantity of backlinks than your competitor doesnt mean you will outrank them...there are a lot of minimal factors and im sure a lot of them we dont even know. i have seen websites taking a year to move...

its funny how you are frustrated...its looks like someone made you a promise about the backlinks.

IBP lists backlinks despite of PR. Also it does not account your sites PR which is considerably important.

Thanks for the reply folks. Its funny how this site just stopped. I was making backlinks, some of them would show up in site explorer, then one day, nothing. No matter what I do. I can do a bunch of high pr backlinks manually, nothing. Thats the frustrating part, making the links, pinging them, etc. writing articles,.....nothing.

As far as the SEO, I just think its odd that so many people are into all this and backlink strategies, making idiotic link wheels and such, when Big G just seems to pick by lunacy. SEO is more than just marketing. It is about the quality of the internet. It really should be about the best site winning, and that clearly isnt the case. I was beat by one not too long ago, the website had been abandoned. All the backlinks were from xrumer, terrible profile links, and there was nothing but gibberish on the page. It ranked number one from G.Anyway thanks for the suggestions.

Yes, ding ding, get the stinking keyword domain.In many cases this seems to be the extent of G's advanced algo. Pretty advanced.

Im frustrated because all of a sudden, nothing I do backlink wise counts. While this piece of shit site gets all the traffic.

I would consider adding pages and fresh content to your site, to make them spider your site more often.. it may be stuck because, simply, it's decided not to come back to your site to check on it yet. This might change, who knows, maybe tomorrow, or maybe not for another month. I feel your frustration, there are some crappy sites above mine, with that damn keyword in domain name. But I try to look at those things and think of ways to use them to my advantage rather than get frustrated.

Are your backlinks on pages that are n0f0llow? Are your backlinks even being found/indexed? (sometimes you need to backlink to your backlinks). Do the keywords that are pointing to your site match the kw you are targeting? Are you using ways besides xrumer and articles? These are all things to consider as well.
