Some laptop is more powerful than desktop, I would recommended you to get laptop. I am using alineware its kinda overpriced but I liked it soo

Laptop for development, then all the heavy lifting gets done on the server so I can stay mobile and not be tied to one location.

It depends what you do online, if graphics then desktop, if just running websites laptop would be just fine.

I have a i3 2.13ghz HP g62 notebook atm. I upgraded to 4gb ram and it runs call of duty perfectly and opens programs quite quickly and the net card is good. But i am buying computer parts tommorow to build my first custom desktop pc

Guys don't laugh...
I m using Dell GX150 desktop
833mhz processor, 384mb Ram, 40 GB hard drive.
I use it for
photoshop cs5, blender 3d animation, ulead video studio, and many many many....
I play KOF NEOGEO, IGI call of duty, etc
its depends on u how much u can maintain ur pc.
in past Bill gate said 64kb is enough memory....

well I m planning to buy but its working good.

I would prefer to get a Desktop for working at home. Much easier and comfortable than a laptop....

The major advantage of laptop is the mobility. The major advantage of desktop is performance. So the question is mobility vs performance.

Plus you can put in a cupboard when not use it.
