I have a lot of keyphrases I'm targeting... But I've managed to get one up to #4 in Google.

I'd like to hear from some of you guys who have been there, then kept going and managed to get to #1. How much of a difference was there for you traffic-wise between being a few slots down and being at #1?

I read this a long time ago...it was something like #1 position gets, I don't know, 67% of traffic (it was some decent percentage) for the term, then it trickled down from there. Regardless, #1 will always get the best traffic.

yea you will most likely receive at least DOUBLE the traffic you're currently getting..

think of how many people google something and only visit the first result/page they land on

Yeah I think it was around that range...

Not sure where you guys got 67% but the breakdown I've seen is
#1=42%
#2=12%
#3=8%
#4=6%

and it goes down from there.

I agree with this one, but there are some exceptions to this.

Suppose, you are on #1 and a brand like Ebay on #2, then most people will go to Ebay, so the "Brand" factor should also to be considered (If Any).

How much #1 is better than #4? Depends on whats in #2 and #3.

I always give the first 5-ish a look, it all depends on how the search terms match up. If I'm looking for something, and the first page that shows up only has a few bolds in the body/title, I'll happily click the fourth one first if it bolds more.

When I was number 6-10 positions on the first page, I got about 2% of the traffic.

When I was 3-5 positions, I got about 6-15%

When I reached position 2, I got about 25-35%

And number 1, I get about 60%

YOu can think yourself.

you want to search things on google, you type e.g. "dog accessories"
and you will find dog accessories site,

will you hit the #4-#10 first? no, i think you will hit the #1 first

Heh, #4 for an okay-ish traffic keyword will be tiny traffic. #1 for that same keyword and you will increase traffic by at least a factor of 4-5 I'd say.

Point is, that #1 position is worth throwing everything you have at it.

Just keep working hard and you will soon find out the difference in traffic between #1 & #4 :D
