Different SERP's on iPad vs. Desktop?

I am #1 in Google for a phrase I am targeting... On my iPad. On my Desktop, I'm further on down the page. I am not signed into an account on either machine.

Can anyone provide some insight into why this might be? Thanks.

Yup. Mobile devices appear to use a "mobile" Google search platform. You'll see differences between results. I can only guess that maybe the mobile search results use a central or limited number of data centers to pull SERP results from? What I do is use the "standard" search platform and then it shows the same on my itouch as PC for SERPs.

How do you use the "standard" platform on a mobile device?

I have an option to search using the "normal" Google when I go to the Google search page.

You'll also notice in the Adwords keyword tool that they give you the option of getting desktop or mobile keywords.

I have found with my research that whatever the ipad/iphone says in the mobile site is normally more up to date then the actual SERPS on your pc. trust me if you see your higher on your iphone or phone etc then check back the next day or so on your pc and it will be the same

I hope you are right. I'm currently seeing amazing results on my mobile device, with the desktop lagging behind...

Try to delete your google cookies on both devices, close all google tabs if possible, reconnect to get a new ip and then check again. I just today saw that google (now?) displays individualized results not only when being logged in but also when being logged out through damn cookies... seriously, this is going too far now... :/ Anyways check it, maybe the results will be the same afterwards.

yes dude your totally rite, for some reason the smart phones and ipads show results faster, i think its due to them using less search platforms ie... Moz, seprs etc.... Only the few big ones so its a lot faster updates

They will update after 48 hours on your laptop (desk top)

Mobiles are more oriented for a conversational search due to the advent of Siri-like technology nowadays, that's why. This is what the hummingbird is all about.

Are you using the same connection and ip address for both your device and pc?

Do you check delocalized and depersonalized rankings? You don't have to be logged in into Google to receive a different result form SERPs.
