Ok, I'm thinking about taking on a new venture but I don't want to bite off more than I can chew. With these stats can I outrank my competitors (or not as the results would seem).

My main competitor has a website with Page rank 5, Domain age 13 and about 210 backlinks to the article.

With these stats how difficult would it be to be number 1 for this keyword?

By the way the google search engine competition is 391,000.

When you say 210 links to the article, is the main competition an article on an articles directory website?

pagerank is about pages. What pagerank is the page you want to beat?

I guess it's not their homepage... in which case it probably wouldn't be too hard, but the quality of their external links to the page would be key.

That's the thing its just a standard medical article from a respected website. No linking to any other sites orproducts, just an informative article.

I agree.
So what is the pr of the page?

The pagerank is 5 according to traffictravis.

... and it's not their homepage?

ouch! That'd make their homepage, what, PR11? :p

8 apparently, but they don't have many backlinks and it's searched for quite often, I think I might just go for it, it's ironic I found it trying to help myself out but it does seem pretty untapped.

How large is the site? Authority might be an issue with you there. If they have a strong authority of inner links you might be finding it harder to beat.

PR5 is probably coming from other inner pages that have a good amount of high pr do follow links.

Also remember the sheer number of backlinks doesn't mean a thing. For instance 1000 links might look strong but if they are all pr N/A with content that isn't relevant to the niche then you can slap them down quickly with some authority links.

Find out where those links are coming from that are linking to that site. I'm going to take a stab at it and say that the home page is where the PR is coming from and passing off to every page. Reverse the homepage and see what types of links are coming from that area.

Could be a good little linkwheel that has a boat load of high pr links pointing to the homepage and then spreading throughout the site.
