This is basically what I do :
1. My niche sources ideas :
- General niche - Go to ehow.com or ezinearticles and find some article you feel interesting
- entertaining niche (music, photoshop, fun, hot girls, etc.) - Go to youtube. people go there for fun so you can steal the ideas by looking at the most popular videos
- health niche - Go to health.com and pay attention to TOP HEADLINE
- product review - amazon are best !
2. Keyword Research
- I prefer google adwords keyword tool. It's faster than MS.
- I will then collects keywords I see have potential (exact search = 1000 ++ ) and import it to Market Research for further research
- Set SEOT > 50 , Competition < 60000 .
Note : You may want to grab some long tail keyword for your articles. (My setting : SEOT > 5 , Competition < 20000)
- Look for SEO competition and if I feel I can take them down, then I will register domain based on that keyword.

I can definitely relate and agree with you on this one. I basically do the same process. Google adwords keyword tool is perfect. Also, I don't understand why people have a problem with doing keyword research, it is not hard at all. You should enjoy this process because it should be the nice new beginning to your successful IM scheme. :bigeyes2:

That is hard to say because in my opinion it depends what your keywords actually are and what monetization method(s) you plan on doing. Obviously for adsense you would want a keyword with more exact monthly searches (more possible traffic) because adsense probably will not pay as well as other monetization methods such as targeted affiliate marketing. I would say any keyword with 10k+ exact global monthly searches is decent. There is much more to be discussed on this topic but just do your homework and everything should work well for you.

Am I the only one who doesn't really like Market Samurai? I think it's way too slow for what it does, and on top of that, the keyword data it pulls is right from the Google Keyword Tool so why not just use that?
I personally just use the Google Keyword Tool to find my keyword (I like to target 1k or more searches per month on Exact match) and then I do a regular Google search for the keyword and gauge the first page competition using SEO Quake.
I don't do any of that searching "in quotes" shit where I only look for the amount of results to be under a certain number. All I care about is the 1st page - nothing else matters except page 1 because that's where you want to land.
I've found my method to be much more efficient and quicker than using Market Samurai, but do whatever works best for you.

I'm doing the same thing you are doing. I target 1K searches or more but no more than 10K and see the competition for the first page on Google. If I can't get to the first page, I move on to another keyword.

For my niche ideas I just browse a little and I'm able to find some major niches.
If I can't find anything, I just search at Google Keywords or Market Samurai keywords like: auto, weight loss, shoes, shopping, flower, gardening, photography, insurance, rental, business, etc.
For determining whether the keywords are good or not, I use Market Samurai, along with some manual research and common sense.
