Do you pay your taxes?

Kind of a bogus thread title, as it presumes people HAVE taxes to pay. Taxation is legalized theft, and in the case of the income tax, as far as tax honesty supporters are concerned, it's illegally enforced theft upon most people who don't even owe it. Don't you love it how government and its sycophants chant the "ownership" phrases like "your taxes," or "your SSN," as if to make us embrace being robbed? These things are actually assigned to or imposed on people by the state. It's their taxes, not "your" taxes.

So.....just for the sake of conversation.....if you were making a living at IM and could be mobile (live anywhere). Where would you go or what could you do to avoid paying taxes?

I know of a couple of States in the US that don't have State Income Tax, but of course everyone is expected to pay the Federal Tax.

So where in the world can you go, and not have to pay tax?

There's plenty of places for this, with most being located in the Caribbean.

This, however, won't solve all of your issues, especially if you're a US citizen. Check out the concepts of Five Flag Theory and Perpetual Traveller (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perpetual_traveler).

hell no !
Taxes in western Europe are suicide (expect switzerland) !

The day I'll pay my taxes, I'll live in Switzerland, Delaware or North Korea.

I pay taxes because I don't want to end up in prison.
The ones boosting about not paying taxes are probably just kids making $5 per day. If you're banking hard it's impossible not to get caught and end up in the slammer.

I try as much as possible to avoid paying taxes. The easiest way is to claim you make very little and that a lot goes into business expenses to show very little profit. In 200 years, history books will talk about how taxed the American people are.

Several people who receive free housing or nearly free housing through the HUD program (section 8) are my primary tenants. I would never be able to live in large homes for free, not that I wouldn't, I would never be allowed to because I am not considered a minority, and I am not a single mother. As those do not apply to me, and I know I could never receive something like foodstamps (EBT), Title 19 (free healthcare), or section 8 (free housing) - so I don't bother. Plus, my age group won't get Social Security, and I sure as hell will not retire within the U.S.

There are so many people out there living off of the state and making good money off of it too. Imagine if you could rent a house for free, then get a "room mate" to pay 90% of the bill, that could be an extra $600/mo. You go to the hospital and claim you need a constant source of pain killers, theres an extra $120/mo, go get a job that pays you under the table, thats an untaxed $1200/mo. Apply for programs that give you free cars if you are a single parent, and then take every online class given by your local community college, and theres free money from Fafsa and other grants (Pell grant) - Before you know it, you are making over $2k a month doing almost nothing. So many people here do it thats its crazy. If the government wanted my money to build schools, then all they would have to do is ask instead of garnishing my wages like some sort of debt collection agency.

Actually, it's probably 10 times easier. It's hard to roll cash in to income earning assets that make no profit when you have no assets at all.

I don't really pay that much in UK. I write off most of it. It's pretty easy if you spend a lot of money on ads and reinvest some money back into your ventures. On top of that half my money never even hist my bank account.

Then the odds come into play:

3.2 By how much can the penalty be reduced?
You should tell us about anything you think is relevant when we are working out the level of the penalty. At the end of the investigation we will take into account the extent of your cooperation.

The maximum penalty of 100% tax evaded will normally be reduced as follows:

Up to 40% - early and truthful explanation as to why the arrears arose and the true extent of them.
Up to 40% - fully embracing and meeting responsibilities under the procedure by, for example; supplying information promptly, quantification of irregularities, attending meetings and answering questions.
In most cases, therefore, the maximum reduction obtainable will be 80% of the tax on which penalties are chargeable. In exceptional circumstances however, consideration will be given to a further reduction, for example, where you have made a full and unprompted voluntary disclosure.

If there are any other matters whatsoever that you consider may affect the level of penalty, you should inform our officer accordingly.

What are the chances that I get caught vs tax avoided vs potential fine if I cooperate and come clean.

I don't believe in paying taxes and I also don't suck from the government...this has worked very well for me for the past 10 years.

It seems like some of the US citizens believe the police will raid them instanty and arrest them and they will be in a federal prison for years if they dont pay their taxes on time. This is not the case. You will be given MANY chances to make good on your arrears, and have a hearing which you can delay for many months/years, at which time you will be able to plan your move to another country.

How doing something can be easier comparing to not doing??

Because it's easier to submit to an armed extortionist and fork over the cash, than to resist having their money stolen from them.

That's pretty much what I do so far.

How do you prevent it from hitting the bank? I get a little income from adsense and it gets transferred to the bank through EFT (or the other option is a cheque)

Many affiliate programs don't offer paypal or direct cash payments.

You know, on the face of it, I'd throw it out there that it's easier to pay your taxes than to be forced to move to another country. Just sayin'.To the previous post 'how can doing something [paying taxes] be easier than doing nothing' - it's not the act of paying, it's the consequences where the cost is.

I wish I could opt out of some taxes. I'd opt out of these:

Social Security - Nope - Probably never see it any ways
Medicare - Nope - If I get sick and can't pay when I'm old let me die
Welfare - Nope - Never gonna use it
Roads - Nope - Like my roads ever get fixed
Military - Nope - When they start using nukes instead of people
Government Jobs - Nope - Most are lazy asses that only make life worse for us

I'm sure I missed some but until I get to opt out I have to pay or risk prison. I've been audited 3 times in 10 years. Won every single one of them but paid out the ass to fight them. In the US the IRS considers you guilty till proven innocent and you get to foot the bill either way. So bend over and take it like a man!
