What About A BHW Radio Station?

For the size the BHW is, I think it would be great. Just grab one of those 128kbps plans with unlimited bandwidth and 500 listeners or something. They are around $170 a month and I think it would be a great addition.

All thoughts are welcome!

It most likely won't be talk and if it is, it probably won't be about IM. But most other forums that I know that have a radio station, they just use auto dj and it plays random playlists of songs and comedy tracks, etc. So not really about the whole talking aspect, but just a form of entertainment while browsing the forum. Music makes everything you do, better. Seriously, open your iTunes and start listening you music, I am sure no one will think that it makes you enjoy the forum less.

Could be a good idea but I have run a few internet stations in my years of djing and I found this happens(on 90% of stations)

1: Djs never turn up after a couple of shows (Await people to say Ill do it)
2: Can cost a bit
3: Its a pain in the arse
4: Its trusting people not to give out your settings
5: Strain on server
6: People bitch about the music - People complain but never praise
7: Its a big job for admins and very very time consuming

1. Don't use a DJ, I have found a plan for this. Auto DJ is free. It's a matter of a trusted person uploading 100 new sounds every week or something.
2. $170, pocket change for Dave I'm sure. 1, 20 second ad every hour would pay for this. Hell, I'd buy the ad for $170... xD
3. Not at all, like I said auto dj.
4. Life is about trust.
5. It's a separate server, is it not?
6. Suggestion thread in Lounge. Just play the top 40 on billboard.com, everyone likes that, if not, there are other people I'm sure that want to listen.
7. Auto DJ my friend, who says Admins do it? Just post an application thread where reputable can come forward to apply to run it.

I agree with the "talk radio" idea. We could have guest speakers, members calling in, etc. There is a lot you could do with it. The "music radio" station would be . . . well . . . just another music radio station.

I know I would tune in. I love listening to educational radio programs. Anything that would cover IM would be awesome. I think with radio ads and everything this project would pay for itself.

This is a great Idea. Wiz, can you put together a donation button for this where people can donate a little money to it every month to cover the costs? There are enough of us I am sure that we could pay for it. Or we could set something up where we get an ad spot every couple hours or something. 5 ads for $25.00 a piece would about cover the monthly cost of it.

I think this is a great idea. I like the idea of someone talking to people about what we are doing. I might actually check it out and just purchase it to start it up. Maybe see if I get some interesting people to talk about IM on there.

What makes this much different than IRC?
Why is someone going to jump on and talk about the method making them money so it can be saturated?
Even though this is a big forum, a large amount of the users are dumbasses and leeches who wont be able to provide anything useful to the radio channel.(sorry, it had to be said) It will be tough to fill all the time in.
Why would I jump on the radio show and talk about something over posting a thread? I talk on the radio show and only the active listeners are hearing it. I post a thread and it can be viewed and referenced forever.

Seems great minds think a like. Maybe we should see what we can do about this. We could even play some webinars that are good or something like that.
