I have 2 different options I have found for a niche I am getting ready to enter. Need a little advice.

The actual keywords have been swapped so that the domains I want dont get snagged.

Option 1: buynewwidgets.COM
Option 2: newwidgs.NET (proper, well known abbreviation of keyword)

I will be trying to sell my "new widgets" but the search "new widgets" gets a lot more hits than "buy new widgets".

My question is should I go with the .COM tld with a "buy" thrown in front of my search phrase?

OR

Should I go with the .NET tld of the abbreviated version of my search phrase?

For SEO? Buynewwidgets.com. I don't see how a domain name with an ABBREVIATION will help you rank for the actual keyword.

Thanks for the replys guys

@kickflip: I was assuming google was smart enough to associate a well known abbreviation with the actual keyword.

The abbreviation gets 50% as many searches as the word itself.

with my opinion Option 1: buynewwidgets.COM is the best

.COM
.NET
.ORG

means nothing, it's just a way of organizing different types of companies and services. lumping into categories. go with your full and main keyword, you can even place a hyphen in between the two words, it doesn't matter.

Buy em both, rank them both and redirect whichever one you want to the other.

1st one have the KW, so it will help in achieving a better spot. No meaning in taking the 2nd one - abbreviated, as it doesnt have KW it have no use.
SEO - is abbreviation of Search Engine Optimization. Here we can take 1st or 2nd as both have searches. But in ur case this is not the matter.
Stick with first.

All the best.

Option 1: buynewwidgets.COM

- As long as the kw is in the domain, you will reap the benefit, so it won't be hard to rank for "new widgets".

- An exact domain match (ie newwidgets.***) would be the best option seo-wise (today), but unless you go for an exotic TLD, it's probably not doable.

- You have a .com TLD, which have the higher perceived value (.net is not bad but less value) and the "buy new widgets" may not be searched a lot, but it's a buying kw and that's a factor that would be taken into account by potential buyers (just in case you want to sell your site someday).
