My post count never increases- can someone tell me why?

I know I have more posts than my post count says because I can see how many in my control panel. Why would my posts count on my actual posts be different than the actual number of times I've posted?

Ahh...I just remembered reading some sub forums do not count for your overall posts count?

Which ones? I forget. That must be it right?

Maybe a redundant question now that I remembered that.

Your post count is the least of your worries. Post count means NOTHING.

As mentioned, posts in the lounge do not increase your post count. Also, you'll gain or lose far more respect through your interactions with others on this forum than you will through post count. Right now, smileys or not, the only thing I've seen you write came off as plain rude.

Now maybe I don't agree with your attitude towards things but to whoever said "Who cares about post count?" That a pretty dumb question. Just yesterday someone was complaining he was scammed. Everyone told him that he was the dumb one because the guy that scammed him had a low post count. That doesn't make me feel very good because most of the time I just hit the thanks button and move on. So not much posting from me. Does that mean I'm not trust worthy? No. Does it make you better than me because my post count is low but yours is higher? No. So to some people on this forum it means respect and loyalty. Is it fair? No, not really. Is it 100%? No. But some people look at it this way whether we like it or not. So this is why it is important to alot of people.

Well of course a low post count doesn't mean someone isn't trustworthy, but it also doesn't give any reason to think they are. Basically a low post count means there isn't really much information to make any kind of decision about someone. That's why people say things like "no wonder you got scammed" after someone gets burnt by a deal with a user with no posts. There are certainly many examples of people with low post counts doing great jobs too. You just really have no way of knowing.

Of course if a member has more posts, but just because of making many "thank you" posts then there's no more reason to trust them than the guy with no posts.

The reason post count matters is because it gives other people in the forum a little bit of information about how the guy thinks. As he gets enough posts to start getting past forum restrictions, hopefully he's shown himself enough to gain a little trust. At the very least it shows he can make posts and keep from getting banned. Not everyone survives that test.

So the people that say there's no reason to worry about post count are right in that post count itself doesn't matter. New members need to be more concerned about the kind of posts they're making. But if someone is trying to participate and the posts are still not going up it's understandable they might be concerned about it. That's actually a little bit of another test though.

If a new member reads the forum rules and the faq before they start posting then they should already know the answer.

Agreed. And if post count really didn't matter there would be no reason to even have a post count.

It is fundamental to a forum which is a community. It show participation on some level anyway.

I sure as heck use it as at least a small determining factor along with other things as to whether I do business with someone.

Same thing applies to the thanks count and rep count.

There's definitely a point to having all of them. It just isn't anything to worry about. If you're participating in the forum then all of that should just take care of itself.

As long as you read the faq then you'll know where to make posts that count. Make good and valuable posts and you should get thanks. Give some help and treat people decently and you should build up rep as well. Ideally that's how it should all work.



If you buy or sell then of course iTrader matters even more than the rest, but that's a little more structured. It's more like feedback on ebay and so also a very valuable trust indicator. Of course there was a glitch a few months back that caused everyones iTrader to be reset to zero, but that just means that what you see now is a more current indicator.
