Selling Digital Content on eBay

I have been selling some personal items here and there on eBay lately for extra xmas shopping money, I was wondering the policy and process of selling digital content there and what types of these items sell well..

Can anyone provide their experiences with this?

I think you can sell digital content with ebay but you should use proper payment gateway in case of chargeback by the users

If your using the regular auctions then you can only sell it if you're actually delivering the digital product on a CD or DVD and shipping it to the customer. You can still sell digital content with electronic delivery, but you have to sell it in the classified ads and only in certain categories. Those rules apply to most things like ebooks, photo collections, software, video tutorials, etc.

There's a few exceptions to the rule for things like access to membership sites, turnkey websites, domain names and hosting service, etc.

I thought the deal is that you have to offer a choice to sell on the normal section of the site. As long as you make it possible to get on DVD or DD you should be ok. Still better check to be sure.

Basically lets cut this story really short :

1: Most "digital buyers" are potential sellers who want quick and cheap feedback quick - They don't give a hoot about the emailing
2: Ebay will remove your listing if you are found not selling anything in a physical format
3: Paypal do not cover intangible goods
4: Last year I sold 5k items @ 0.99 and only TWO complained it was a electronic item, I simply refunded and said "lost in post" opps sorry blah blah
5: If you do get a complaint then just refund straight away
5: Be very careful where you buy your shit from - Just because your seller states it has resell rights don't presume it really does!

What I did was set up a subdomain with a few free ebooks/shite which I would give access to once the buyer gives good feedback - worked every time!!


I dont sell items on ebay now but I have a friend who does the same thing(i sold him the business)

While selling digital contents you should always take care, anyone can chargeback or complain that this is not what they wanted and can enjoy it without returning it.

Yes . . . thats right.

You MUST deliver the digital products you offer on eBay via CD or DVD.

(I imagine you could get away with sending your digital products via email, but the game is over just as soon as eBay discover what you are doing.)

Burning CD's or DVD's with your information products is no big deal, yes, it takes time . . . but no hassle.

Probably the worst thing is those buyers who will claim they never got your CD or DVD. I don't have a solution for this !!! All you can really do is send a replacement and accept it.

Stick with eBay rules . . . and you should have no problem.

I find that if it is a digital download that multiple people are selling, you will sometimes have your listing flagged by one of those other sellers in an attempt to make their sale go up in price. I've only ever had this happen with the digital downloads.

Use "Delivery confirmation" via USPS. It's inexpensive. Add it to the shipping cost. And then post the tracking number on eBay/Paypal using the seller tool to do so on eBay. Not only does it help your customer track their purchase, it proves you delivered it, and gets you paid faster via Paypal if you you're new to this.

the best to get around selling informational products on ebay is using kunaki.com you can bundle the data into a cd or dvd and they'll package and dropship it for you for a flat fee. charge the cost of kunaki as your shipping price and its a wrap

Just be careful, when I was younger I took it upon myself to sell a "Photoshop for dummies" ebook that I pirated and sold it on eBay, I ended up getting sued for it but I was 11 so they really didn't do much. We settled on $50 and called it a day, true story.

i tried selling digital content on ebay a few times and all the times my account got limited, so now i'm iffy about DG on ebay.

I know some people who will just send a "Guide" with their digital product so you can
provide a tracking number. This works pretty well.
