[METHOD] Get write offs for Gas that you didnt buy!

Ok so I'm sure that there are some people on here that keep their Gas receipts and turn them in tax time,weather for biz, company vehicle...

Ok so what you do it say you plan on only buying $10 in gas.

1.Go INSIDE,pay with a hundred dollar bill.
2.Go back outside and pump your $10 worth of Gas.
3. Go back inside with your receipt and ask for your $90 back since you didnt pump it all.

Now you have a receipt showing a $100 Purchase for gas when you actually only paid for $10.

I don`t know what gas stations you use but the ones I use (HESS mostly) all itemize that on the receipt how you paid and what you pumped and what you got for change.

Over here you either pay by card at the machine and get a receipt after or you go to the desk after you have filled up (drive there) and then you pay in cash or by card there. This is in france and it's similar in the UK except you have to go inside which is a big ass pain.

you know if you get audited you also have to prove what all miles you drove were actually work related exactly and explain how they were work related...
i know someone that has been through that but everytime they drove for work they wrote the mileage down before they left and when they got home...

Yikes. This is hardly "business & tax advice" (the category this is post is filed under) but I guess it may work for someone. The writeoffs for something like this isn't worth the possibility of getting busted by the IRS IMO.

Glad to see other people understand tax laws here. The fact of the receipt being itemized or not is a moot point. Most people file their taxes online, which means that no receipts are needed until audited or pre-assessed.

Once the auditing happens, whats on the receipt won't even matter, because when you can't produce a full years worth of mileage all itemized for EVERY trip you make in your vehicle, every last cent will be disallowed, and you will probably recieve a 5 year audit shortly after.

It is not necessary to go through these great lengths to cheat on your taxes. But if you did, here's how you'd get nailed for tax fraud IF, and I mean IF, you were ever audited:
1)"Um Sir, can you please explain to use how your Ford Pinto with a 14.2 gallon tank can hold $100 worth of gas?"
2)"Can you explain why your internet business that you run from your house requires you to travel 15,000 business miles per year.
3)"Since you willfully went through such great lengths to defraud us, do you prefer a orange or white jumpsuit?"

If you want to pay less taxes, simply deduct everything business related to your internet operations and you'll likely have more than enough deductions. If you ever "cheat" do something "grey hat" as you have a better chance in an audit of only getting hit with back taxes and penalities as opposed to a fraud charge.
