google may want to keep apearing inocent, but i think their planning on virtual world domination.

they wil eventualy have something running in all major internet uses, and when they are all over the place, they link everything together, so everything online can be done with one google instal to your pc, and every aspect of the internet wil be served to you.

and since people are lazy sheeps, the whole world will fall for the google empire, ultimatly pushing even microsoft out!

what would be easyer, instal 1 thing, and you can do everything you dream about, of search for single aplications for every task?

Chrome is an open source browser so Google can't just stuff it with spyware. But every time you use a function that goes through the Google Data API (which I'm sure the browser uses a lot), they can potentially log it. That simple.

Now bearing that in mind, it isn't in Google's interest to collect that much information about each user. It would take thousands of TBs to store that information not to mention at least as much computing power as IBM's Roadrunner to process it all in a meaningful way.

Think about things from Google's point of view: What kind of information would you like to know about your users in order to serve them the ads with the best CTR? That's probably the information they log, and nothing else. Anything more would be a waste of resources and might end up getting them in trouble over privacy concerns.

Edit: Just saw the posts about security flaws in Chrome. Remember that it's version 0.2-ish, which means they still have a long way to go. And if you look at mainstream browsers like IE, they are still ridden with security flaws even after version 6!

Dont know what people here are expecting from a testversion of a software, its not production ready! Otherwise it wasn't very smart to release the first public beta (or alpha) with an old webkit version with known security issues. All currently known vulnerabilities of Chrome are old webkit bugs, nobody has yet found new ones, the timeframe was simply to short.

But I have to take back my statement above, google is obviously giving each user (and that means each account on the machine) an individual ID which is send to google occasionaly. But I doubt that we have to wait long till a fork is out which doesnt allow google to do any data mining because Chrome is OSS.
