Using '.' i.e. POINT as an anchor text for High PR-site backlink

Guys, today I was thinking about this little trick which helps to pass moderation and succesfully leave a comment on a high-PR site that has strict moderation of each posted comment.
As I have just checked if I put my comment in a High-PR site like:

Blah-blah-blah<a href="http://www.MYSITE.COM">.</a>Blah-blah-blah.

- they approve it and I have a nice hidden High-PR site backlink.
1. So the question is is it okay if I have no anchor text but just POINT sign?
2. As I heard nowadays anchor text not so much matters as just a link of any form as do-follow as nofollow or even no anchor text is more than enough, is it right?

I dont know where you heard that anchor text is not important, to me it's really important. anchor text + relevant content to the post is a powerful stuff. IMHO

but again, a link is a link

Well, that wont work in many forums, where a CSS modifies the hyperlinks, just as in BHW!

So, all hyperlinks turn yellow, and there is no way to over come it, as long as it is text!

So, it will be like this, if I do it as you said!

To pass out successfully, insert links in smileys, and that is less chance for the moderators to catch you!

But do you believe that link without keyword in anchor text will give its power of link juice to your site? Or is it vain efforts?

It definitely will pass the juice (pr) to your site. It strengthens the site in general.

This is not new and I think Google is aware by now of this technique and the fact that it's used to spam. Right now I can't think for any legitimate use of "." (point) or smile as anchor text. It's very easy for Google to make their algorithm ignore backlinks like that, right? That being said I think such backlinks won't help you rank for any competitive keywords.

build a or some blogpost from your dummy blog, put your main site link (with keyword there). Then find backlinks for that blogpost, it's more save even if you use that "." as the anchor

Links help your site gain PR regardless of the anchor text. You should use those type of tricks to boost your link wheels/pyramids PR and have relevant content and a proper link to your money site on your 2.0 properties within your links wheels.

Yes. I used to spam flickr comments with ".", "smile" and "transparent 1px images" links. While it improved my SERP in the beginning after just a few months the effect was completely lost. I thought that Google updated their algorithm.

Also I have just found out from competitors that sometimes adding rel="do-follow" attribute to the post will make your link from no-follow to do-follow! Looks really powerful!

Question: In case your domain name has word 'cheap' in its name - there are some filters which filters you out your message as spam. How to bypass such filters?
