Need Help Pls!! Getting 5k hits a day in my website

right now my website is not stable it will go down after getting 100+ online then will go back online after losing visitors to 20 online, i can see it on my stat counter

Hi Ryan, I had bluehost as my hosting and had to move to hostgator because of similar problems. There are memory settings that can be changed to allow more user connections that seem to be hitting a memory limit. Too many connections point that way. Default mem settings seem to be 64 mb on some hosts and this may help to ask them to increase to 128 mb on the server side to allow for more. You may hit that limit again in about 1-2 months if traffic grows so be ready for the vps move.
I have a vps level 7 and I may be moving to a dedicated server as this next vps level and the ded are priced very close.

Do not use hotlink protection if they suggest it, you will probably lose 98% of your traffic. I say to use w3 total cache plugin right away and this will reduce the server load as well. I have 2 million impressions on my whole account and this plugin has helped me. I hope my tips may help...

Although i'm sure a lot of people here would be willing to help for a fee, your provider would probably be willing to set your VPS up for you if you're willing to upgrade to a VPS.

Submit a ticket, and see if they'd be willing to since they're 'forcing' you to upgrade.

If they aren't willing to help you, shoot me a PM, and i'll see if I can't help you through it.

thank u very much appreciated i will try all you said

any other opinion or suggestion?

Have you installed any caching plugins like W3 Total Cache or WP Super Cache? Although it won't directly help you with your connection problems your pages will load quicker and put less load on your host. It may be enough to get you off the radar.

im completely a newbie on this but im sure if i ask them if i should upgrade to this or that they will answer YES you should, i already ask them if they can increase my mem setting as headbone said just waiting for reply

anyway does it have anything to do with spam comments i get? this also started when i start getting spam comments although my site is not auto approve

i have now installed W3 Total Cache, is there anything i should do in settings? i dont know anything about cache whats the best settings?

That's a good start, but you really need to get yourself a dedicated server. At the very least get a decent VPS and have them set it up to be able to handle the traffic. WP blogs absolutely rinse space when they get traffic.

You may be at the level where you will need to upgrade per meathead's suggestion. The tips I gave may hold your traffic for a short time while you consider your next line of attack to handle the server load.
Use the following settings or in other words activate these..
Page Cache:
Minify:
Database Cache:
Object Cache:
Browser Cache:

This should help short term and is only a band-aid for the time being. I have tried those other cache plugins and did not get any help, This is the only one that worked.
As for vps, you may need a level 3 to start for minimum. I would look at the memory allotment for each and ask or post some of that info here to get an opinion from the folks here.

Your only solution to your problem is to either get a very good VPS or go for a dedicated server... I think that all hosting on a shared server, they only allow 25 simultaneous connections to the database at one time and you seem to be exceeding this by quite alot....

Ok, I went to some of my really old trouble tickets and found a setting that you will need to add after they increase the wordpress mem limits on the server side.
This setting should be added via ftp..

add this to wp-config for the memory issue

define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '128M');

copy/paste that exactly as see it. Open this file config via ftp, click view or edit, paste that and then save. It should help no matter what you do for hosting level.

thanks guys i already bought a vps :) this should help my problem

WOOT!..that should take you to the next level of traffic and earnings. Good deal..

Congratulation for your high traffic..
I was facing the same problem like you, I try use cache system like hyper cache, db cache reloaded, but still I got too many visitor for shared hosting hostgator, more than 50k a day, then I move to vps, learning how to install web server, learn to use lighttpd to replace apache, then I move to dedicated.
More problem you get, more experience you gain.

Congrats - should solve the problem.

So the next (and only important) question is, are you making money with all this traffic?

actually %70 are from indonesia and philippines :( they say its not bad as it would help my website on seo although im happy earning $290-350 a day in cpa 1 lead / 10 clics

So this website is making 10k/month and you couldn't afford getting the dedicated server for it in the first place?
