How does a site achieve PR5 with only 50 backlinks that are all PR0...? I've just come across such a site and I don't understand why it has such a high PR. Almost all of the sub pages of the site have a PR4. I checked checkpagerank.net to find out if the PR might be fake but they seem to say that everything is okay.

Could be a simple 301 redirect.

I'm not 100% sure if you mean the same thing, but I believe if other sites to a 301 redirect to your site, you get juice from them. Also, it may have had high quality backlinks in the past and Google just hasn't updated the PR in a long time.

PR alone isn't worth much, so I wouldn't be concerned how to achieve such a thing myself.

I am seeing lots of sites at the moment that have PR4 with a low number of back links and I am sure their age is playing a role in this. Also page rank seems to be a bit of joke at the moment. Personally I wouldn't worry too much about toolbar page rank, its only a snapshot in time.

It's not a matter of 301 Redirects. Google is going through some really major changes in their algorithm(s).

Hint: Use a utility that lists the links that Google still has in their index and then concentrate your s.e.o. work on that style of link.

It doesn't look like it, at least I can't seem to find any connections to a 301 redirect. The domain has been registered in 2007, so it's only about 4 years old. In terms of SEO it sucks though, it doesn't even rank for it's keywords which have a really small competition.

if it was a 301 redirect it would come out as fake. It probably has like a large percentage of PR7-8 backlinks.

I only checked the links that showed up on Yahoo and none of them where above PR0. Google doesn't show any links for the site, so this is quite confusing.

well, why not think about it as a Google problem/issue at the moment and gonna be fixed later? doesn't make sense at all, hence you say that Google show no links for it at all, seems quit odd to me that its an old PR which haven't updated over time, check later in 1-2 weeks and let us know what's going on, strange!

I don't think yahoo shows all the backlinks. I personally, assume he has many high PR backlinks that aren't showing in yahoo. Would be interesting if it wasn't though..
