Should I upgrade to Firefox 3?

I use Firefox 2.0.0.16. I use a number of addons and so was wondering whether it was wise to upgrade to Firefox 3. Does anyone know of any reason why I shouldn't do this? Don't want to break anything.

I would wait. I have found some of my old addons are not compatible with ff3. Give it a few more months.

well i upgraded n then uninstalled the new version... n returned to the old one... none of the plugins i use worked..!! my life is over without them!

I still find FF3 to feel a bit clunky compared to FF2. This is based on my linux installation however, I have not tried it yet in windows. I'm not a fan of the new security features however

I upgraded this week, and though the plugin problem is real, the look and feel of FF3.0 is great. To use the old plugins, install the portable version of FF on a flashdrive, then install the plugins to the portable FF.

If you are using many plugins (like many of us I guess) I think you should wait a few months. In a few months the important plugins will be most likely bugs free but not there yet.

I just bought this to see how well it works, and it's great. For some reason, it chews away at the CPU a bit more than FF did, but it's ridiculous how much memory it freed up. Hit me in up PM if you want to give it a shot, and I'll send you the .zip. After you try it, if you like it, you should definitely send in the 4 bucks or whatever it was. Thanks Tony.

Note: This one is from a previous download post called "WizGizmo's Download Avalanche". I checked the link and it is still working . . . and YES - It works in both Firefox and IE. You can enable it by going to Start>Programs>AI Roboform>Taskbar Icon. Then, whenever you wish to disable it, just go to your tray and right-mouse click and exit it.

I use it all of the time. It's a really handy tool for a bunch of different tasks.

Yes. I have had it since about a week after FF 3 was released.

For those of you who are debating upon whether or not to upgrade to FF3 based upon whether or not your plug-ins will work, there is a neat little trick that allows you to use older plug-ins with newer versions of the FF browser. Here ya go:

1. Type "about:config" in your browser. (Without quotes of course.)

2. Right-click on preferences, which brings up a menu. There should be an 
option that says "New." Click on it, and then choose "Boolean."

3. It will ask for the preference name, so type in  
"extensions.checkCompatibility" (again, without the quotes). You must 
type it in exactly as shown here. When it asks for a value, be sure to 
choose "false."

4. Now you need to restart FF. FF will likely inform you that 
"version checking is disabled", which is exactly what you want. Confirm 
changes by going to "Tools:Add-Ons".

Voila.

FF3 it's a lot faster and they fix memory issues. So I recommend it.
Most of the plugins have FF3 version.

Some of us are addicted to extensions that for one reason or another, are not updated as regularly as some of the more common plug-ins. In those cases, it is necessary to take matters into your own hands and "make" the old and useful plug-ins work.

Stay away from Firefox 3. It jacked up my whole system. Pages wouldn't load or would take forever. I went back to 2.0.
