So I was reading around on Webhostingtalk.com because I'm looking for a good hosting company that provides multiple C-Class IPs at a good price when I came across this thread here:

The OP was just asking a simple, valid question which happened to be the exact question I went to that forum for, and everyone in the thread jumped on his case for it. It seems to me like they know absolutely nothing about internet marketing or SEO, yet they talk outta their ass like they do.

Here is one quote from a member that posted in that thread:

The whole idea of "SEO hosting" is very outdated. Google doesn't base ranks on IP or server geo location at this time, as is largely believed by the whole "affiliate marketing" (pyramid scheme) world -- many of whom have less IT knowledge than high school students and have "marketing" beliefs that would earn them failing grades in a college Marketing 101 class.

Large hosts who have thousands of sites on a single machine, not to mention across entire C-blocks at the data center, would naturally have sites that interlink to one another. (Before you try to argue, "well there's millions of sites, blah blah blah," it goes deeper than that. I don't feel like writing that semi-essay right now.)

I would suggest approaching this from a different angle.

"SEO hosting" is a waste of money -- something that's sold because suckers will buy.

First off, I guess affiliate marketing is now a pyramid scheme according to this person. (1st sign that they aren't qualified to talk on the subject.)

Second, we IMers have absolutely no IT knowledge and couldn't even pass a college marketing 101 class. This is funny to me because everyone I know says the marketing you learn in college is shit compared to what you learn online through personal experience and forums like this. There's also some people that are smart as hell with IT that do IM. So again, their argument is void of any credibility.

And then there's this guy:

Search Engine Optimaztion has been pretty much useless for more that three years. Anybody that tells you different is full of crap and most likely trying to sell you SEO.

If you want to place high in the SEs just build a nice clean site, some unique content and get thousands of people linking to you. Also as someone stated .. A fast server and a fast site helps a lot. Also it would not benifit you to have all of your linking sites coming from the same IP or C block.

You are not smarter than "The Google" and tying to be is pointless.

In closing let me say this: SEO is the equivalent of a woman that has had a hysterectomy taking birth control pills

He then goes on to say to just build a site with unique content and get thousands of people linking to you. Wait, isn't getting links part of SEO? The very thing he related to a woman taking birth control pills after getting a hysterectomy?

Today was the first time I ever read anything on that forum and after this, I'll never be going back. I heard somewhere that it was a good forum to discuss hosting but if they wanna talk shit to someone for asking a valid question and then give arguments that make no sense, I think I'll have to pass.

What do you all think? I'd imagine some of you are members at that forum.

I had a casino inquire of me to do their Online Marketing. In my proposal I described what I was going to do for them which involved FB, Twitter, Link Building, Article Posting and some other stuff. Nothing crazy. The Marketing Dept. I was dealing with made the mistake of forwarding it to their IT guy who knew nothing about Online Marketing. In an email he sent in reply to my proposal, he talked the maddest trash on me and my services. He said I was only spamming and that their website would be banned by Google immediately.

So, I crafted a clever reply to this ASSHOLE and everyone else CC'd on the email...Needless to say, with a little forethought and common sense reasoning, I was able to bury this guy, got the job and I still have it to this day.

After my well thought out reply, this IT guy had nothing to refute since I laid it all out as to why he was completely wrong. The statement that my services were all "spam" was an ignorant statement that was easy to pick apart. I left him naked and humiliated for even opening up his trap.

Some people, no matter how intelligent they think they are can be just as, if not, more ignorant than a racist. Sorry to say.

Haha that's awesome. I'm glad you threw it right back in his face, made him look like an idiot, and then got the job on top of that. He had to of felt like a dumbass. Probably even more so now that you're producing results for the casino in spite of what he said to them.

Based on your story and the little amount of time I spent reading that forum, it seems like these IT guys have some kinda vendetta against us.

I didn't know what to think.

The only ones I know of are SEOHosting.com which is ran by Host Gator, and the new BHW Hosting that just launched not too long ago.

The BHW one seems like it might be good, but I want to wait until it's been around for a little while longer and has some more reviews before buying a package.

SEOHosting.com is established and appears to have good reviews, but it's a bit expensive and there's gotta be a cheaper alternative somewhere so that's why I'm still looking.

IT dickhead's email: This is a BS service. In fact, the service they provide is considered spam by all the search engines and, if implemented, would eventual result in a ban from Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.

I HIGHLY recommend not going forward with this one.

Since that's what SEO is about in a nutshell, why would you need to do it if SEO has been dead for 3 years. If 1000 sites in the same niche decide to "build a nice clean site, some unique content and get thousands of people linking to you." then obviously there will have to be a way to rank who gets listed first in the search engines. Probably the guy that as far as the SEs are concerned builds the best site, has the best content, and has the most relevant links will be listed first. That's why SEO is far from dead.

Then this part:

Well if that isn't a pretty good explanation of why there IS a point in SEO Hosting, I don't know what is.

In post 52 I detail what the class's are according the the RFC's.

And why the addresses used by BHW Hosting are not Class C but are from the Class A range.

When it comes to Google, not only do they build their own custom servers, they also have an in house company which builds custom network gear - its custom because they can hook into the operation of the equipment. With that capability, BGP route selection becomes really, really easy.

Tracking by BGP domains as well as AS domains wouldn't be a stretch too far for a company which runs their own custom operating system as well as a custom web server. Then you have their from the ground up distributed file system, as well as their distributed database.

The validity of the "SEO hosting" concept, the way it offered/sold and described is suspect. For it to be valid, one would have to have real Class C addresses (see post 52 link above), and not some random /24 address range. Each Class C would ideally be in its own BGP domain but random groupings would also work (would also look more natural) and possibly in different AS domains as well. Then you'd have to make it look like their not all connected to the same pop (Google runs its own network (dark fibre included) as close as it can to the last mile as possible - where the end consumer is).

You get the picture.
