questions about keyword research and competition

hellow guys i've been reading a lot here in BHW forums and learned a lot but a specific question it remains and its about keyword research and competition supose a get a niche and by research i get 5 keywords
keyword1
....2
...3
...4
...5

I also learned that using a keyword in my domain name it helps to increase rank in google supose im using keyword5 as my domain name and now it starts what I dont get, how do I my domain rank for keywords1,2,3,4 ? is it thought articles content, site map or what ?

You rank for keywords based on the content that is on your site. So if you want to rank for keyword 1, you need to have a post or page on your site that the content is optimized for that keyword.

I would recommend only optimizing a page for 1 keyword and creating additional pages for each keyword you want to rank for.

The idea that a site ranks better if the keyword matches the domain name exacty is a myth. The fact is that it will rank better is usually because a naked link going to your site has the keyword(s) in it (www.keyword1-keyword2.com) and Google simply parses the URL as text (anchor text). I got this straight from Leslie Rhodie of Stompernet and SEOBraintrust fame. Just get your title tags and content density correct and that will go a long way as as far as on-page optimization goes

hummm I understand now I was too scared of being competing for only the keyword in domain name and possibly loosing some adsense targets for another keywords in the same niche

If your keyword is let's say "car crashes" your domain must contain car and crashes, it can be car-crashes(dot)com , top-carcrashes.com etc, it must contain your keyword.

Your domain does NOT have to have the keyword your trying to rank for in it at all. Some people believe it helps but you can rank for a keyword regardless of what your domain name is, it just takes work.

LOL - I am on the edge of showing you my own websites with exact match, wordpress installed, and only a couple of links outranking wikipedia, about.com, amazon etc.

But, since I don't want to reveal my niches, all I can say is that your statement is simply not true. I did a split test - 2 same type websites (wordpress) with similar content (~80% original, but with same keyword density, titles, meta tags etc).

One website had exact match domain, other had relevant domain as well but it was not exact match domain. The first (exact match) was ranking no.7 WITHOUT A SINGLE LINK after about a week, while the other website (relevant domain, but not exact match) was NOWHERE TO BE FOUND.

CONCLUSION: No1, and I repeat no1, knows for sure not just this small detail with exact match domain but all other SEO tricks and details. Only guys working in Google itself (probably) know it, but I am willing to bet that only select few people know the whole algorithm since it is so damn valuable that I guess Google company doesn't want to risk revealing top secret data to their employees who might get offers from competing companies looking to find out that damn G algorithm.

No matter what someone tells you, be it Lesley Rhode or Matt damn Cuts, trust only yourself and what you see from your own tests.

and how about backlinks? I'm looking at ABS for SEO competition for the top10 pages but I can't figure how much backlinks a site has it means a strong competition

Use firefox browser with the seo plugin. It will tell you the PR of the sites in the serps and also their backlinks.

You really just need to be concerned with the stats of the first page results ( top 10 ). Check out their pr and backlinks and also determine if its an authorative site or not

that I know i'm using market samurai to look at that I just don't know how to read the numbers, I mean how many backlinks in a PR4-5 it show that the competition is it gonna be hard or not ? reading thoose ebooks about adsenses and blogs they tell you to look for keywords that the competitors has around 300 backlinks and to tell the truth I think that thoose numbers are too low

Its all relative to how much work you are able and willing ( and sometimes $$ ) to put in to achieve top rankings. You can achieve the rankings no matter the competition ( in theory ) if you spend enough time/money working on it.

Ask 100 people and you will probably get 100 different answers.

Personally, I wont target a keyword unless the majority of the first page is PR3 or less. Also I want the number of page links ( not site links ) to be under 500.
