I'm considering to start spinning articles, but I have no idea what is the similarity threshold to pass Google's dupe content check. Can anyone advise based on their own experience, to what extent my content should be unique?

They are good at detecting translated articles.

just changing one word is not enough. 99% of spin articles do not work in my exprience. I just went to freelancer website and found somebody who summarizes the articles. So basically I give him a 800 word article and ask him to summarize it 3 times so each time it is 200 words less. 800>600>400>200. Meaning each article is totally unique and not rewritten.

Let me put it this way. If I change words and positions of sentences is it sufficient to pass the DC check?

I spin like this

5-10 versions of 1st paragraph all well spun
2-3 versions of middle paragraphs all well spun
5-10 versions of last paragraph all well spun

My final articles run from 300 to 800 words depending on the spin

I consider it VERY IMPORTANT to spin different versions of each paragraph so the word count is never the same.

I also make sure the links are different in each paragraph. 1 link to me, 2 varying links to my other sites or web 2.0 sites

If I can do it with about 95% accuracy in about 30 lines of Perl, imagine how good google is at it. They are experts at determining template (duplicate html portions of a page) content. I see that google is not able to detect forum templates that well.

So, do you pass DC check safely this way?

It seems like Google is quite smart.... they blacklisted my PPC farm for "google instant preview" from the instance I bought the domain.

Gutted! :disappoin It was a quality domain name.... seems like they don't like brand emulation though.

It all depends on what you're goal is. If you're trying to get as many articles as you can ranked in google, then you should take the extra time to make sure they are as unique as possible.

If you're just making articles for backlinks and don't really care if they rank or not, you can get away with a lot.:D

With that said, when you spin your articles, don't just change words and sentences. You should spin on the paragraph, sentence, and word level. Don't forget to be creative and add images a when you can and changing up their titles, alt tags, and placement as well. Also, changing words that are bolded, indexed, etc will make a difference as well.

Finally, Google is smart but not that smart. People give them too much credit and some even go as far as to fear it. Google is a machine. Learn about it and how it works. If you do that, it's actually very easy to exploit it.

thank you to all that contributed I will use some of your tips

LOL on 3 of my autoblogs I outrank the original article for the keywords I was targeting, no spinning done. I was pretty shocked, I have one spare server with 100ip's on it that just runs autoblogs, Each domain has its own ip and own nameserver. I dont spin anything on any of these autoblogs and the rank they are getting is pretty amazing. I remember one of the mods here saying don't bother spinning articles for autoblogs so I took his advice. He was right. Anyway who knows maybe I am just lucky and will get google bashed in the near future.

I hear you.

Despite what a lot of people say, Google does rank duplicate content quite often. I see it all the time with my own stuff as well as other stuff.

That's why I have never bought into into the whole duplicate content penalty thing.

How good is Google?

They're the best in the world. Really. No bullshit.

Google keeps getting the patents on new ways of examining data.

Google knows everything! sometimes they drive me crazy!!!
Like a little child of two years old thinking that his mother knows everything. Really does she? Or is it because he is only two?:)

Will you think the same when you are 20?

I think you can write 5 unique articles first on same topic and then spin the all articles with spinning software.
After that mix the paragraphs with the spinning articles .
For example 1st paragraph of 1st one,2nd paragraph of 4th one and 3rd paragraph of 2nd one etc.
Then you will have at least 100 unique articles from just 5 articles.
