One of my websites holds the top 6 positions for its main search term. The reason is that there is very little targeted competition and have built links to all of the pages with the targeted search term.

He's most likely mass link building for those 4 page results; as you can see each one offers a new description with unique text. If he's pushing them odds are he can get them to rank for the search results of "supplements 247".

Or at least that's what I would speculate.

"supplements 247" in quotes gives me 6,780 results, it is just a shitty keyword with no competition, so it is easy to get multiple rankings at google

It isn't anything special really.

The guy is clearly using a keyword match for his domain name, title tag and onpage content being relevant to the point of what he is promoting.

It is only expected that he should match for that keyword. It will be others that he will be restricted to one listing, as this one matches his actual domain and everypage is specifically tagged for it.

Again, no magic bullet, no unsolved mystery...just simple, clean seo.

- that keyword is his exact domain (.co.uk)
- that keyword gets searched NEVER!

He's dominating a keyword that does absolutely nothing for him!

Agreed. This is just simple seo targeting the primary keyword search term. Nothing new there. IF you have ranked 6 on your's, that's great, congrats.

Nah, he's pumping out branding and marketing in this industry under that name as a slogan tagged on all his POS and bricks n mortar stores...there is more to the internet than just IM man...but I know what you mean. I was going to piggy back his off line branding for that phrase with supplements247 [dot] com then noticed this this morning. So simply, just amassing a TON of links to internal pages, hitting the same anchor is all this takes then?

Agreed. In 99% of the cases, this effect holds no power because it goes for the most relevant words in the overall site, listing accordingly. Without a site being known/established, this does nothing for it traffic wise or for financial gain.

Not all it takes, as it requires REAL, relevant content. Trash/spin content won't hold you in place. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone that doesn't want to put in the labor of keeping the content consistant, fresh and legitimate.

That is the reason google switched to content based ranking..if your page isn't legitimate, it won't hold rank for very long without a TON of backlink work and content shifting...way more than a legitimate, natural update would cost you in the effort.

Good luck with it none the less, with the previews of pages, the content relevantcy requirements and such, it will make it very hard to just throw up a page and make it last for any substancial time.

Just food for thought.


Add-on: in researching this further, the image you took has changed and the pages that were listed have been dropped down to 2. Again, proving the point that real content is the key.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I had a page that kept slipping from #1 page #1 to page #2 practically everytime it reached there as there was no on page targetting, just backlinks pushing a phrase. It was like melted butter slipping through your fingers. Pumping some fresh original content once a week made it stick.

Google recently announced that they would display more than 2 pages from single website if they believe it's very relevant. Just read the blog post on Google webmasters central blog

I doubt he actually tried to optimize his site for that, looking at the descriptions makes me think it happened organically.. It's probably a result of "supplements 247" being a low competition keyword

Absolutely, it is an organic side effect. However, the op wanted to know how it happened though, which the owner clearly listed the title tags and content to relevant levels for it to accept it none the less.

Whether or not they were intentional, the steps are still clearly there, wouldn't you agree?
