Question about article dates and SEO

Will it affect your blog if you post articles and date them 2-3 months ago? Say I made an article on November 11, 2010 but I edited the date to make it look like it was posted October 1, 2010.

Follow up question, what if I schedule the posts? Like I made a November 11, 2010 post but scheduled it to go on live on November 30, 2010.

What are the effects of changing the dates of your posts on Google search?

I haven't seen an effect positive or negative in regards to SEO. But for me it usually seems to be more worthwhile if I find an an established blog. So whenever I setup a new blog I usually try to have a lot of articles to include right from the start. Then I back date them across the timespan I decide on up to the current date.

How far back depends on the niche and the type of articles. Anytype of news related blog I'll collect bast articles from other sources, rewrite them and date according to the original source. For non dated articles i'll just create random dates.

If you really want to make the blog established, you should also create a bunch of comments for each article, and date them within a few days after the article date. If there aren't at least some comments then won't seem worthwhile to some visitors.

Like I said I don't know what effect there is for SEO, but I do this sometimes so that it makes my brand new blog look older and more established for the visitors when they start coming. I think the SE really only care about the true age of your domain. I don't think the posted dates of the articles matter to them.

I have been using this strategy for some time now. Mainly from my spamblog who is pointing to my moneysite. This means that I automates my spam inlinking process for let say 2-3 weeks.

I haven't seen any negative effects yet.
