I guess I just don't see it as "competing with yourself." If you have 2 spots in rankings, one from an article directory and one from your site, that's going to equal more traffic than if you only had one spot. If a site is ranking well for a KW, then you can work on getting it's rankings up, but this takes time. So until that happens, why not just ride along with EZA's top spot for the time being?

My theory is if I can get on page 1 of SERPs with my site, then I can get to the #1 or #2 spot for that term (in most cases), so I'd rather use the authority of eZA or other article sites to attack related but harder keywords and not have my own articles pushing my pages down.

Over half the search traffic is hitting either the #1 or #2 listing for any term, so unless it's a keyword with massive search volume it's almost useless to hold any other spot because you'll just get trickles of traffic from them.

It is all a question of perception I suppose, but the reality is if you chase the same term with an eZA article and your own site, you are kind of competing with yourself for the same limited traffic. For me, the obvious choice is to use article sites with authority for chasing harder and related terms than I'm chasing with my own site pages.

Here's what happened to some of my articles. Due to the keywords I chose, when I published on my site, some of them ranked #1 - #8 within 4 days (the fastest was within 1 day). Then I published the same articles on EZA.

Here's the interesting part. For 2 articles, both the EZA and my site ranked on page one. After a while, they both had Google dance. Now I noticed one article on my site came back, ranked #5, whereas EZA one's still dancing with Google.

According to the vendor of Article marketing robot, he does not spin articles. He found sending out the same article to multiple directories is just as effective.

Any thoughts or comments?

hyc2010, I'll spin articles, but not for the reason most do. When I'm promoting a niche, I'll have a list of hundreds of keywords to target, so let's say I'm targeting "texas divorce lawyers" as my primary term, I'd start with an article called "Texas Divorce Lawyers" and submit that article as-is to the half dozen article sites I use most.

Next, I'll spin the article for about 40% uniqueness, then replace "texas divorce lawyers" for one of my other terms, perhaps "family law attorney in texas", then I'll submit this article as-is to the same half dozen article sites...and so on.

Doing this, I get the most mileage out of articles that I think I can get.

I don't care about submitting the same article to multiple directories, though I know big G is likely to only show it once in the SERPs, I let the SE's decide which article site to show it from and don't worry about that.

It's sort of a "targeted shotgun blast" method. I throw the article up on 6 to 8 article sites looking for one of them to rank high in the SERPs.

As for your case where your page settled in the SERPs but your article kept dancing, this is another reason why I don't compete with myself by publishing the same article on my site that I publish with article directories.

Once my article site pieces are in the SERPs, I linkbuild for them just as I do my own site pages. I'm not content with my article being on page #1 of G for just a few days, I want it there for months, and I want it in one of the top 2 spots, just as I want my own pages in the top 2 spots.

By using the article site's authority, you can get those top spots for slightly harder keywords than you can with a new site of your own, so by keeping the terms and content of my own site separate from my articles I'm able to cast the wider net in my niches and chase the easy and mid-level competition terms at the same time.

Yes, I keep the article content that I create for my own sites completely unique from the articles I publish on other sites. As I mentioned, I chase the lowest competition keywords with my own site pages, and chase medium competition keywords with article sites because you can piggy-back on their authority to rank for harder terms.

As you can probably tell from my posts, I can be long-winded, so I do most of my writing myself these days. Sometimes I'll hire someone from DP to write articles, the quality is hit-or-miss there, but I only use those articles for article sites and not my own pages so I don't care if it's mediocre, I'll just polish it up a bit and use it. For my own site pages, I write all my own.

For spinning, I have my own script that I created. It doesn't require me having to prep the article content first (none of that {word|word|word} crap) as it does it itself and then uses an online thesaurus to create word options from, all thru the Tor network. The output isn't always perfect, and like articles from DP writers usually requires a little polishing, but it's fast and effective.

I can't speak on other spinning programs, most I tried required the whole {word|word|word} prep crap, and to me that takes longer to do than just rewriting the article from scratch so it wasn't worth it. At least my own script does that for me, and the polishing afterwards only takes a few seconds.

As for linkbuilding, more articles, web 2.0 sites, social bookmarking, and ping every RSS feed you can grab. If I want to boost an article's SERPs position, I'll publish new articles on other sites that link to it (just as I do my own site's pages). I'll link to my sites and my articles from web 2.0 sites. I social bookmark everything. And all of these sites give me RSS feeds to ping. The article sites give author's RSS feeds, web 2.0 sites give RSS feeds, social bookmarking sites give user's RSS feeds...those are like candy to lure the SE bots to my site pages and articles.

I have a question: What do you think, is it a good idea to upload the same article to multiple different article directories/web 2.0 sites, each with different title (and maybe with different keywords phrases in text) and try to rank each of them for different keywords?

Articles are powerful and very effective for back links and to get people to your landing pages or blogs etc. If you can show them that you have a quality product by using great persuasive content they will have no problem going to you for what you are offering.

If you are not good at writing or just don't want to take the time there are plenty of people that you can find that will write great articles for you and they are cheap. It is like being in school again, except you can turn in work that someone else did! Great thread. Thx
