Hi all,

I ran a training course a few weeks ago to local businesses. The course was about tips and ways to improve their website with optimization and backlinking. It was really just a taster to get them to sign up to get me to work with them in the offline business.

I was thinking of other courses to run and wondered what you guys have done.

I've seen the Google Places course which looks interesting and here are a few others I've been toying around with:

Spying on your competition/how to

How to create videos on your website

How to use Twitter

How to use Facebook

Anyone ran any training courses and want to share what you did on the day?

Thanks

Good topic. I have just returned from Asia and am fixing to start something similar in my area. How long was the course you gave? 1 hour plus Q&A?

I am thinking of setting up intro courses like you have, but, I'm also wanting to setup an online presence that will garner repeat traffic from my clients. Seriously, we can tell these businesses everything IM and they still will not do it right!

On top of that I'm thinking of giving tools reviews (twitter, facebook, backlinking) to these people, setting up affilliate links for those who want to buy, and offering the tool service for those smart enough not to buy.

Other than what you mentioned above we can teach about email campaigns, offline marketing for online interactions (that's kinda funny considering), PPC, Adsense and Adwords...

I really think we should work together (all of us offline marketing types). I would be willing to put together a course and share it if others will too. What type presentation did you give in what type environment? I am thinking of targeting associations that have monthly meetings, like real estate agents and such.

Alternatively, I can rent a room at the local convention center for $100 / day and offer courses to everyone (but this requires my own marketing vs. going to existing meetings).

Did a free course through the local chamber of Commerce. it was 2.5 hours long and covered seo tips and that sort of stuff. It was more of a quick tips type of course and they lapped it up. Got a couple of clients out of it.

I would be interested in marketing another course to them but it would have to be a relatively simple one... I could see a lot of the stuff I mentioned went way over their heads.

I've realized - keep it simple - things they have heard about but dont know much about.

Powerpoint is what I used and it worked well. numbers were small enough for it to be personable and they brought laptops with them for live demos :)

Doing seminars/workshops are definitely on my list of marketing myself. I even have
experience doing workshops, but haven't gotten around to do it. The biggest reason is that it cost a few hundred bucks to join the main Chamber of Commerce in my city.

Are you a member of the Chamber? How receptive was the Chamber when you first approached them?

When I approached them they jumped at the opportunity to have someone give a free training course - they got the benefit of providing their members with value and it didnt cost them anything.

I joined the Chamber from that but have since been to other chambers offering the same deal but didnt sign up.

That's good to hear. I'm definitely giving the Chamber a call.

Thank you so much for the valuable information you provided about LinkedIn. I was hesitant to use it, but now I understand how it can be a valuable tool it can be.
