Does data entry make money?

Keyword "claim". Anyone can claim anything via any method. Just be weary and stay aware to your surroundings (if you haven't previously heard of someone making $19k/mo with manual data entry then it's probably very very unlikely that it holds true).
If he is (benefit of the doubt) then he is probably doing a bunch of outsourcing or automation.

Data Entry how ever is mostly a scam. Besides.. if you're willing to devote that much time writing, don't get paid hourly.. get paid for life

true coreygeer. but there are lots of guys(yours truly included!) who would want to make some instant money just to get things started and for them writing articles for others would be a far better option than writing for themselves which would surely pay more but only in the long run...
as for data entry...yeah almost 99% are scam...and the remaining 1% would pay pittance...
data entry is somewhat of a scam and somewhat true. it isnt as easy as they would have you believe, but you can make money from it. almost all of them deal with using adwords to place clickbank affiliates ads to make money. but if you dont know how to properly use adwords, you could lose a lot of money fast...there are companies that outsource real data entry jobs, but they are very hard to find.

Like mwari23 said, Data Entry is adwords ==> clickbank. It also can be say article writing, it really depends on the deception the copywriter wants.
The reason these people come up with concepts like data entry (and I'm sure you've seen the new "processing rebates at home" where it just means you write reviews for affiliate products and offer some form of incentive/rebate).
Anyway, they come up with this deceptive crap because the majority of people who want to make money on line like the sound of a "job" because that would guarantee income. They, for whatever reason don't understand, you don't PAY to get an actual job.
The best thing you can do if you are seriously considering data entry (with that assumption, I'm also assuming you don't know much technical stuff).
Go start a free blog on your favorite topic and post to it every day, eventually you'll get visitors and make some money. And learn as much as you can from this forum and other places without paying because truly, I've never bought a product that I was like OMFG this is breakthrough stuff it's all basic Product->marketing and once you get that down the skys the limit.

There's also a difference between Gross and Net Profit from doing this stuff, people will show you the gross not the net. I have yet to see anyone show how much they spent on adwords. Profit margins usually in the 20-40% range using affiliate programs.
Problem with PPC now is there's people who are willing to make LESS than you are. So you may see an ad and they may be spending $3 per click and think it must be profitable when in reality they will just accept less than you (average taxi driver in China makes $14 a day).
Then again there are lots of niches, so... It really comes down testing. But still it's a lot harder than it used to be.

No I was making light of the post before which was talking about how people can 'claim' anything. I have actually paid people to do captcha work which is a form of data entry but like someone else said work like that is done in India/Malaysia for small beans nowadays. I like working with people who speak my language though.. that counts for something I guess.

Granted, his earlier comment may have been an attempt at being facetious but I know for a fact that ifwearner supports a half a dozen red-blooded AMERICANS by giving them data entry work to do.
