Hi,
I've got a german Blog dealing with a good searched topic (all in all about 300k searches per month).
For several keywords I'm ranking on place 40-50, what isn't so bad I think (started wednesday). Now I've got some questions:
1.) Should I concentrate my linkbuilding to one keyword?
2.) How can it be, that the top 2 of some keywords last updated their page in 2009 and have all in all 3 short texts on their page with all in all about 100 backlinks?
3.) Is a steady stream of fresh content needed? I will be very expensive in some weeks..

Thanks

1) If you want to rank for one keyword, yes. Mix up the anchors a bit.

2) Keywords are relatively easy, backlinks are strong, or both.

3) No, but it can be helpful. Depends on what you're doing.

First of all please be sure that 300K is EXACT match for LOCAL searches. If it is OK then check your keywords and competitors with semrush. It will give you very good indicators.

Do not forget RSS directories.

The phrase I'm ranking place 65 (dropped hard) is searched only 135k times.
I've got the exact /.)co,m domain and have several other top 100 rankings, but place 60 or place 80 is irrelevant.
For the directories will I take a service from BHW, but I want to wait, cuz I just bought a xrumer blast and do daily scrapeboxspam..

Thanks

I hope we understand eachother. By saying:

EXACT - The exact number of you rkeyword's searches done in a month.
LOCAL - Country you are targeting (US, Germany, etc.)

So did you use Google's new keyword tool? Because you are saying "The phrase is searched only 135k times". ONLY 135K is a weird term for a niche. I think you are targeting a very hard to rank keyword.

First of all I'm using the "keyword tool external" by google, yes.
Local searches are 135000 per month (Germany) (same global, so only german searched term).

It's not a niche like chicago fire insurance or something like that, but I want to rank for that keyword. Why? Because I can decide how much I want to earn.. Strange eh ;)

I am sure you are not targeting a single k/w. Prioritize your K/'w's and then start Link building as pwer their priority. Also Mix up their link builing from the very early stages.
To answer your third question,
An updated content is always a plus point for a blog.
