Made my first 'wholesale' purchase guys

After reading this section for some time I decided to spend some time on DHGate and look what is there. I currently have a dedicated e-commerce store which has been running very nicely for about three years however the past couple of months it has really slowed down hence my current position looking for new ideas and products.

Anyway to test the waters so-to-speak I made a purchase of one item made sure to check the feedback, chat to the seller etc and it was all positive which is good.

Now I have the same product, it's a leather product (not a purse/bag or wallet or shoe! ) and I looked at the pictures very closely comparing the stitching to my item which I paid for $229 USD for a few months back. I was very impressed by the stitching in fact the entire thing!

So I made the purchase bought only one unit to further check it for only $70 USD.

It is a well known brand and I doubt it's 100% authentic in that regard but if I can't tell the difference in terms of quality and looks from the high resolution pictures so I will have to wait until I get this order. Now if it is a great replica I will sell the one on eGay. I will not sell anymore on eBay and depending on how quickly it sells I will create a dedicated off-shore website to sell more.

What are your thoughts?

Ebay has gone way to commercial it used to be much more personal, the fee's are outrageous for any small seller, and the ads.......

I agree and there is no way I'd use eBay more than a couple of times. I want to use eBay to see what the buyers think of the product I'll sell this item and if I don't hear any complaints I will actually create a dedicated e-commerce store for it, I'll be safe and use my own Merchant Account, overseas hosting etc etc.

Sell on eBay, and with all of your shipments include a business card which has your website URL. Next time they want something, they're you're customers - not eBays.

I tried that a few times back few years now and Ebay removed the URL a few times when I tried it

Bottom line if you use eBay to get customers, need to make sure you can make money at that same price that you sold them for at eBay. You usually take a haircut selling there, but if you can get profitable, its a good place to pad income stats.

I personally use it for people who want samples or want discounts I can't/won't give on my retail sites. Just have one authorized eBay account and direct them to that so you get the sale.

I think he means physically placing a business card in the product you send away to an eBayer not pasting the link on the eBay site as that breaks TOS.

Tried this, eBay employees hijacked the UPS truck and took the business card out of my package. They also came to my house and beat me with a whiffle bat.

Sounds like a vero item, you will probably have a lot of trouble selling on ebay without your listings getting taken down. This is if you plan on selling a lot.

Amazon is even more strict if you can't survive on ebay then you sure can't survive on amazon. The smallest infraction will get you perma banned they demand perfection.

Might be worthwhile to start small on Amazon or Ebay to see if you like dealing with customers (I don't, so I won't do direct merchandizing), then if you really feel it's for you scale up your own site and optimize it like crazy.
