I've decided to start a organized event for the 48 Hour Challenge. I've got some of the main things down but I'd like some opinions.

To get people more interested in this event there will probably be prizes for winners but what kind of prizes do you think would be best? An obvious suggestion would be money but that could pose a problem because participants could trick the event holders an split the cash.

Should there be a small fee to enter in this event later on when it's more established?

What rules should there be to make sure there is no cheating and to make sure this is a organized event? Starting from scratch is an obvious one and there would have to be proof given before and after challenge.

Any other things need to be addressed before setting everything up?

I think you will need to standardize the method bieng used by all participants, to make things fair.

That's one of things I've already decided on and there will be different brackets. 48 hour challenge, 24 hour challenge, and weekly challenge and each one will have different categories of what method to use.

Sounds cool, I agree that the prize should not be money, I think people will do it with out prizes. I would like to do it if I can think of what I want to do:)

or we will have to make a rule saying that all the participants need to start from scratch.

Since this would be more geared towards noobs I'm thinking about supplying them with the tools they need to get started.

Well I'm down to join in, I certainly need the motivation :)

I agree all participants should start from scratch which I think is doable since the runner of the competition will be choosing the category/method of use.

I would do it just for the bragging rights of winning should I be that lucky, the idea I believe is to make the most money to win so cash prizes wouldn't necessarily matter as you'll be earning cash already.

PM me when we're closer to getting started so I can get prepared. :)

Can we buy services? Also, if certain software is need for the method(and we already own it) do we have to deduct that from the profit?

That could be broken down to different brackets of the event or just have it to where you can use whatever you have at your disposal.

The logistics are going to be hard to get right, but if you do, this is going to be an awesome competition!

Did i miss what the general idea of this contest is, it is it some kind of SEO contest?

That's a good rule. Also I think that people here would do it just for the hell of it so you probably don't need any prizes.

It's from this post I think

Technically, everyone comes out a winner with some money, experience and the motivation so I don't think another prize is needed. I'm definitely going to join this when everything is done ;)

Maybe ask the admins here if they would create a special avatar a bit like the Donor button
or some thing simple like that. I don't think the price should or has to be money other wise you will have some blackhat king come in and clean up.

Ok, I've got an awesome domain waiting to be registered when my funds have transferred into my PP. I think I might have an option where if the participants want a prize they would both have to pay a fee and winner comes out with most of the money. Something like a bet maybe? Either way there will more than likely be prizes later on with this.

i'm interested to join. want to learn more from what i'm doing

bugger - you make a suggestion while pissed at the keyboard in another thread and someone runs with it - this could be very interesting to watch

this sounds like a great idea, im in...

and yea id be happy to pay the fee.

For prizes, why don't you talk to some of the software programmers out there? As long as there was only an event once or twice a month, it should be easy for you to find someone to "sponsor" the competition with a free copy of SEO/blackhat software.
