I spent my whole childhood on Orkut, it was quite popular here.

No algorithm, no ragebaits, no fake news, no bullshit, just good vibes and productive communities in the vast majority of the cases.

Nowadays this is all dead and replaced by bots, ragebaits, algorithms, micro transactions and all kind of garbage.

If they revive it with the new rules and trends to create a new X or Reddit, it would be just a huge waste of time. I prefer to keep that in my memories instead of seeing it back with this new decadent style.

In any case, about your question, it could have a chance in alternative markets, like Latin America, India, etc. But for Europe, the US, etc, it didn't work back in the day, i doubt it would work in 2026 and beyond.

You're from India as well?
Looks like Orkut's founder wants to bring the social network back after more than a decade.

Anyone here actually used Orkut back in the day, and do you think it has any chance against Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok?

Orkut was huge in India back then. I think nostalgia might bring people back at first, but keeping them active is the hard part. People have too many social apps already, so it needs something fresh to stand out.

I strongly believe there is both room for and an urgent need for a new social media platform that operates independently, without any hidden agendas or biases.

But competing with heavily funded companies isn't easy after the tiktok ban in India many tried to take place of that from which only one Instagram survived because of the funding and architecture or you can technical benefits they have

I haven’t heard of this platform , ever. And they are going live again after 12 years? That’s a mega platform.

I’d like to try it of course

Yes, we need one more company that serves AI slop

Orkut's dead, nostalgia won't save it. network effects already won with the big three.
