How do I change my IP address when I am using a linksys 2 router?

It was my understanding that the IP address would change everytime that I log out of the router.

Any ideas how I can change IP addresses relatively quickly?

Are you using DSL or Cable Internet? If cable, then it's a much harder process of logging out of your router. You're going to need to learn how to change the MAC address. If that sounds too difficult, you may want to look into getting DSL lite from AT&T for $20/month. DSL will give you a new IP everytime you disconnect or disable/enable the network adapter.

I am using dsl from my phone company. It is hooked to a linksys router, and I did think that if I disconnected and then reconnected from the router signal, then I would have a new IP address.

That is not the case.

I switched from cable to dsl for this reason. but it has not worked in favor. Am I doing something wrong, or have I misunderstood something?

You'll need to reboot the DSL modem itself, in order for it to acquire a new IP address. The router is just a gateway from your computer to the modem, you can't get a new IP just from disconnecting from it. If you can access your DSL modem remotely (via Browser), then you MAY be able to reboot it that way, instead of having to get up and unplug/replug it. If your modem has the capability (some don't), locate it's remote login IP address. It's usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, but it can be a multitude of things.

Actually, try this: Click Start > Run > type CMD and hit Enter > type netstat -n and look for the Gateway IP address. That should be it. If not, you'll need to refer to your modem's manual or call up your provider and ask.

i'm on cable and its easy Like i said you tube has the videos
i change mine around 100 times a day

you just need a linksys router that changes the mac address

and have your router and and modem on a surge protector after you change yoy mac turn the power off to the surge protector and back on

1 min later you have a new ip

you can write a macro to log on to the router and change the mac.

thats it

He is the guy that has remote dsl I used his service for a while and works really good

I think i have a copy of that macro I look in the morining if i have it ill post it,

It runs on macro3 express

I'd suggest you'll create a macro that will log in your linksys admin, click on disconnect, wait a few seconds and click on connect. I personally use another computer (dsl) for connecting and disconnecting.

Disconnecting from his router won't change his IP, he'll need to reboot his DSL modem either manually or remotely. Try to find out your DSL modem's remote logon IP address (as discussed above), and hope that it has a "reboot" button within. If it does, you could probably even write a macro to do that for you. But if that's not possible, I'd suggest skipping the router altogether and just connect directly to the DSL modem, if possible (and if it has a built-in firewall). Otherwise, you'll have to manually turn off/on the DSL modem.

I'm not sure about your Linksys version, but can't you log in to it (probably 192.168.1.1), select the 'status' tab, and then click disconnect? Once it disconnects, you have an option to reconnect, which will give you a new IP. I have the same set up as you (Linksys / DSL), and that's how I do it...

Actually, I log into linksys, then make a slight change in my macro address then refresh the ip. I learned how to do this, which is a VERY big deal for me, because the laptop and myself do not get along very well.

1. Enter 192.168.1.1 into your browser (log in w/ password or "Admin" if you do not have password.
2. Select "Mac address clone"
3. Alter one of the digits in either of the last two boxes.
4.Click "save settings"
5. Click "continue"
6. Select "status"
7. Click "DHCP Release"
8. Turn off your dsl or cable modem and count to 20
9. Turn modem back on.
10. Click "Refresh" and/or "DHCP Renew"
11. If it shows a new IP, done deal. If it still shows all "0's" for IP, repeat steps 7-10.

I am going to try the 'unplug-plug back in' way right quick.

OP said he had a Linksys router. Linksys broadband routers use 192.168.1.1 for their internal IP address. D-Link and Netgear routers typically use 192.168.0.1. Some US Robotics routers use 192.168.123.254, and some SMC routers use 192.168.2.1.

My linksys uses 192.168.0.1 , but I have an old model/version.

Easiest way to find out:

Click Start > Run > type CMD and press Enter
type ipconfig and press Enter

Your router's internal IP is listed as the Default Gateway
