Hi team,

I have another concern and suggestion

Why do marketplace sellers need to hide their profiles from public view, and why does the forum even allow them to have that feature

I was searching for some stuff, and i saw some Jr. vip with active sales threads have their profiles hidden. So the question is: are they trying to hide something / are they scammers / are they into manipulation or tricks, and do they have to hide their profile for that reason?

IMO, users with active sales threads should have this feature disabled so they can't hide their profile from other users and maintain transparency.

I am new to this forum but i am trying to understand the forum by reading threads and by providing my suggestions on how it can be helpful.

Please share your insights

Thanks!

You have this option, if you wanna make public or private..its all up to you
I know we have this option I bet you didnot read what my suggestion is!

This option should not be available to marketplace sellers. I mean why sellers needs to hide their profiles in the first place :unless they are a scammer / spammer / manipulater.

Some users disable it because it can get indexed on Google although its their personal choice

its personal choice for a seller to hide there profile
but also remember so can you
Imo it should be applicable to marketplace seller if they has active sales thread because that way user can find out more about them easily before dealing

It's a good thing to be indexed if you are a genuine seller.

As a buyer, I thoroughly review sellers before I buy anything. If someone has their profile hidden, I'll skip the seller entirely and move on.

If someone wants to handicap their own sales efforts, that's their choice.

That's the point: every other buyer wants to see the seller's profile fully transparent before they can make a judgment either to buy or skip

But while hidden, it's hard to tell what he's hiding behind, and that seems like a really appropriate thing.

You can still manually check their post history, it just takes a few extra clicks.

If hiding their profile costs them sales, then it costs them sales. BHW is the marketplace, not a marketing mentor.

We can manually check their history, but the point here is, if the seller is truly genuine, why would they need to hide their profile from user view?

And coming back to main topic of creates this thread why would the forum even allowing marketplace sellers having them this feature? It makes no sense to me.

It's a feature available to all members. Removing it only for Marketplace sellers would add backend work for little to no gain. Removing it for everyone opens up a whole new can of worms.

If a seller wants to skip a useful marketing channel, I don't see why mods should intervene.

It's no different from an upgraded member choosing not to use their signature for marketing. It's about options, not enforcement.

Exactly this.

The privacy option is there. If you don't want to buy from a seller who uses this feature, then don't. That comes down to your personal choice and your own due diligence...which has to be the major factor here.

Just as having a profile visible doesn't guarantee a 'good seller'.

Again, as a buyer, carry out due diligence and use common sense. We've said many times before, if a seller is doing business in a way that doesn't make you feel comfortable - rushing the sale, insisting on a particular payment method, isn't responsive in their sales thread, only wants to communicate in a certain way...we could go on...then move on. Find a seller with whom you are comfortable, take sensible precautions or ones that you personally require, and you've done all you can to protect yourself.

That's quite right I can say it's option for all and not enforcement to any.

Privacy option is here for all that's understandable but at the same time the bad sellers also taking advantages of this option to approach more buyers or customers before they exit with big amounts.

But again we have option here to figure it out one way or another who to choose, why to choose and why not to choose even though they hide their profiles.

Bad people are everywhere all we need to know is how to protect ourselves that's it & I get it :-:

Thank you for your time folks @Stavro @MintyGreenTea
